Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Just 30 minutes outside Paris and 25 minutes from Roissy-CDG Airport, listed on the additional inventory of the historical monuments since 1997, the Château d’Auvers-sur-Oise, property of Val d’Oise department, spread across eight hectares in the heart of the village, where Vincent van Gogh spent the remaining 70 days of his life. Since October 2017, offers from October 2017 a brand-new immersive scenography untitled « Vision Impressionniste », Impressionist vision. The exhibition shows what inspired the Impressionism and its legacy, the artists’ work and on the particular place of Auvers-sur-Oise. Dive into the impressionist painting! It is an immersive, emotional experience. For a really spectacular, unforgettable visit. Furthermore, for the first time, four rooms display the painting and litography collection of the Val d’Oise department. It is a great opportunity to admire major paintings (from Gustave Caillebotte, Claude Monet...).

This is a museum with very few impressionist paintings, but a great sense of the impressionist. Each room is covered with audio visual images of the great impressionist painters with quotes by them. You are surrounded by a visual and audio experience. The only negative was that for English speakers, you got a headphone, but it did not blank out the French live feed, which I found a bit distracting.

Such a shame that SO MUCH MONEY was spent to destroy a fantastic museum.
It could be in a warehouse for all you know. A sucesion of rooms with videos projected on walls. The commentary was interesting but there was barely enough space for the five of us to stand. The old place was so interesting and each room was different and exciting. NEVER bring children now. Maybe that is what they wanted. Expessive and I understand the car park will no longer be free SAD

Dear Mr/Ms, We are sorry you did not enjoy your visit. The new project focuses on the Impressionist painting, its beginning and evolution towards Modern Art. The rooms are bare in order to increase the immersion effect. We are deeply concerned about the understanding and the well-being of our visitors, adults and children. They will always be welcome. For instance, we offer artistic workshops for children, and we are currently working on a book with games.
The car park will be free for our customers (château or restaurant).
Thanks for visiting, Best regards

As others have said this is a different chateau experience. Our experience might have been better if the audio guide had been more in sync with our tour. Good idea that needs some work. Too pricy to not see any real art.
The Chateau is lovely from the outside.
Don't recommend.

A total surprise: this isn't a museum and there are no original paintings. Instead, you're taken on a tour of the places where Impressionism developed its character. You walk from room to room, each one representing a significant milieu for the movement: a Parisian street, a bar, a brothel, a railway carriage, a picnic spot, a river etc. There is interesting audio [with headsets for non-French speakers], explanatory posters, and copies of the relevant paintings, some of which are animated! However familiar you are with the paintings, you see them in a different context and come away understanding far more about Impressionism. But I believe the experience is to be updated for next year, so check out the details first.

Building could be stunning but had a general untidiness which suggested some neglect, certainly from the outside. I can only comment on the outside as the place was shut, even though it was advertised as open- there were no signs up explaining the closure. Apparently the exhibition on offer is essentially a video presentation of the impressionist period. Most of the large building appears to be set out for business conferences.
