Don't be fooled by well taken photographs of the hotel, which is actually situated next to a motorway! Look at the address - 'Route' de Saint-Marie-aux-Mines. The room I stayed in was totally disgusting. This is the first hotel where I have seen black stains on the carpet around the doorways - like some form of mould was growing. On the other side of is a giant supermarket which is great if you are on holiday to visit hypermarkets. If you are considering this hotel, do yourself and your family a massive favour - GO ANYWHERE ELSE.

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel

Dear M Mark D,

I thank you first of all, for taking the time to send us your comments about your stay in our hotel.
Let me be very surprised by the content and by the extremely violent tone in which you write.
The room we assigned you is booked every night without us having to endure the comments as harsh as yours. We organize regular cleaning of our carpets, especially late in the season and yours had not yet been made. We're sorry for that and please, we ask you to accept our apologies.

Our hotel is not in any way against a highway but only 3 km from the motorway exit Selestat West. All our customers find this very convenient because it makes our hotel easily accessible.
The majority of our customers (and just read the comments to confirm) find particularly convenient the proximity to the supermarket for some shopping they might need. In addition it offers a significant advantage: 300 parking places in the city center!

We are very sorry that our quality of service was not up to the one you expected. I still see that, in view of the opinions you’ve posted on this website, not so many establishments can really meet your expectations.
Hoping to meet you on another occasion.
Best regards
Carlo DEL PRETE

The setting of the hotel is in walking distance to the city of Selestat (15 - 20 minutes) which is good. We stayed here for two nights, that was okay. The rooms were on the 3rd floor, there is no elevator and no help was offered by the staff. My room was large enough and clean, the bathroom was small, but functional and clean as well. Breakfast could be better for the price (8,50 €), at the second morning we even had to buy our own baguette at the bakery opposite of the hotel. And: You should like dogs if you stay here as there's a big one (very friendly) walking around in the reception hall and (sometimes) even in the breakfast room.

We have chosen this hotel because there was no available hotel near Colmar and the price was not expensive. I would like to give more stars but we had some bad experiences.

Firstly, the check-in time to the hotel is too late: 18:00. When we came at 17:00 to the hotel hoping that maybe we could check-in, we saw that the hotel door was locked. Although on the door it is written that the reception is open after 16:00 there was no body so we had to wait outside. You should be aware of this hotel policy. The reception is not always open and when you want to go back to the hotel you should have the entry code for the door lock with you.

The lobby and the common places of the hotel are very nicely decorated but the rooms are not. The room was small, the small bathroom also was very old and in bad condition. But since I knew all that before coming to the hotel I could not complain. We were looking just for a clean bad to sleep 2 nights. The bed was comfortable and the linens were clean, so no problem about that.

The hotel is near to the Sélestat city center (15 min by walk) and to Colmar (30 min by car). Just in front of the hotel there is a big supermarket of which you can benefit the parking for free.

When we check-out, we had a bad experience. We had paid the total amount when we booked the room on booking.com. However the hotel still charged us an extra 15% for the room! a plus 6€ charged per night per room and no explanation was given. The receptionist just told that she could do nothing and her boss was not there. She has taken our contact details; but 2 days passed we had no contact at all.

The hotel is attractive - very baroque. We had a lovely room and the breakfast was exceptional. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk into the town centre which was ok - not as pretty as other towns in the area but perfectly fine.
Great place to explore the surrounding areas and very easy to find.
BUT - in the room is a notice to indicate the reception would be occupied until 11pm after which guests need a code to access the hotel.
We returned on the Sunday at 4pm to find the hotel locked at no-one at the reception. Three contact numbers provided on the hotel door to contact someone if reception was closed. One number just rang unanswered and two went straight to voice mail. We phones each number at least 12 times over the course of 4 hours - no answer. Left a a message - no-one contacted us.
We were left - locked out of the hotel with all our stuff inside and no way of getting in.
At about 8:30pm a guest came out and we managed to get in. If that had not happened we would have had to sleep in our car.
Not amused. No apology. No acknowledgement. Nothing. Really not good enough and we cannot recommend this hotel as a result. Which is a pity because it is ok otherwise.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here unless you have a key to get in the front door. Expect to be left in the event of any problems when the owner/ managers are not there. Shudder to think what would happen in an emergency.

We went to Selestat as a town in the middle of the Vosges region, which we otherwise had not heard of. This hotel was a pleasant, attractive, friendly surprise for us and made the beginning of this part of the trip very enjoyable. The town is small, with two old churches, a great museum for bookworms like me and a range of shops for most needs. Cycling, walking and other activities nearby. (Leclerc hypermarket directly opposite hotel. Nice staff and good evening meals for price-quality. Do watch out for pickpockets/car theft in the area, which has nothing to do with this hotel, however.
