We enjoyed our stay here so much that we have already booked our next stay at this city central historic bungalow. When we arrived for our stay, we were greeted by Tom the owner who answered questions and showed us around. He was accommodating during our entire stay when we had any questions. The cottage has been restored with all of the original charm but with modern updates like smart TVs, new appliances, etc. There is a private, fenced back yard with outdoor shower, outdoor dining set with umbrella and gas grill - perfect for spending time outside in the gulf breeze. Also, there is a nice covered front porch for relaxing and enjoying the beautifully landscaped yard. All of the rooms were clean, roomy and uncluttered.
Ours was a special Christmas this year at the green Bungalow in Galveston. We brought decorations and gifts from New Mexico, North Texas, and Houston to share the love of that special season in one special place. The Bungalow was immaculate and contained its own seasonal decorating touches already.
We were two and 1/2 blocks from the seawall where we could watch the waves crash or take long Seaside runs. Besides our family Smorgasbord and special Christmas meal around the big round dining table, for dining there were other great options: 2 1/2 blocks to Gaidos, good Texas barbecue 1 and 1/2 blocks away, Topwater Grill near the bridges to Houston, and the Monument Inn Restaurant near the San Jacinto monument in Pasadena (watch the ocean-going ships enter the Houston turning basin while having a nice lunch or dinner). Also Mama Teresa's Flying Pizza in the old downtown is good for dining in or taking out. From The Bungalow you are within easy driving distance to the free Bolivar ferry boat ride, miles of Beach fun and fishing, the historic downtown and captains' homes, the Johnson Space Center which is NASA's headquarters, and the San Jacinto Battlefield where Texas Independence was won.
The kitchen had all the gear we needed even for a full Christmas dinner, and the beds (one soft, one firm) and pull outs were comfortable. This special house in Galveston made a great place to create Christmas Memories and would work for Easter, 4th of July, or Thanksgiving too. Highly recommended and we hope we can visit again.
Three of us stayed there from Thursday, June 15 to Monday, June 18.
Five stars, absolutely earned!
(NOTE: I had hesitated to book the bungalow because it had no reviews on Trip Advisor, but I google searched Beautifully Restored Bungalow and found many glowing reviews on other sites.)
LOCATION: Wonderful! An easy three block walk to the beach, two good restaurants right there, another block to Guido's. Extremely convenient. In a nice, quiet residential neighborhood, and the owner lives right next door.
CONDITION OF HOUSE AND GROUNDS: I want to live there! The house is absolutely clean, not a speck of dirt, dust, or sand. Everything new, everything updated, with a wonderful TV viewing package (it had everything). The kitchen is fully stocked, but bring your own food (which is perfectly reasonable.) Well kept grounds with blooming flowers and shrubs. We didn't spend any time in the backyard, but it looks like it would be lovely to while away some time there.
COMFORT: My husband notoriously complains about mattresses and pillows when we travel. He slept like a baby. Very comfortable. We had friends over for lunch and the dining room table easily accommodated the six of us.
SERVICE: The owner responded to all of my inquiries before arrival literally within minutes. When we had trouble logging on to the (very strong) wifi connection, I texted him at 9:30 p.m. and had an answer by 9:32 with an easy solution. He is friendly and has obviously done a great job with this bungalow.
Highly recommended! You will love this place!
