The company that rents this place will not work with you if you have a family emergency. That is the down. The up is that the house was in an amazing location. The beaches in that area were not crowded at all. It took us 5 minutes at the most to walk from the house to the beach.
The house had a very bad fish smell. We had to go buy Febreeze. It aired out pretty quickly. We did notice that in the Jack and Jill bathroom there were termites. We told Ryson, so hopefully they will take care of that.
Be careful. The agency is not willing to work with you in the event that anything changes your plans.
A little back story... my family & my brother-in-law's vacation together regularly, to pool money & our families are close. Well, my nephew had been accepted to college and they needed to take him instead of being able to vacation this year. Unfortunately, we booked the house a few days before this was discovered. We contacted the rental agent to see if there was a possibility to switch the down payment to another one of their properties. Nope, even though the trip wasn't scheduled for 4+ months out. Now, I understand entering into a contract and all that entails but you hope you're doing business with someone that will help you out, these folks didn't seem to be those types of folks.
Fast forward to our trip. Having accepted that we had paid for more house than we needed we were looking forward to plenty of room for relaxation... Man oh man, we were not disappointed. The house is wonderful and the location is perfect, three houses from the beach & 5/10 minutes by car from the fun of Galveston.
The main part of the house is "upstairs" and has a large living area/dining room that is great for socializing. Our family plays board and card games so we really enjoyed the large dining room table. Also up stairs is the kitchen, 3 bedrooms (2 kings & a double) and 2 bathrooms (Jack & Jill & a master). The kitchen is small but stocked with everything you'll need to cook & eat. The deck is a major part of the home & creates a few more nice spots, a smaller dining table area and a larger seating area.
Downstairs is a huge selling point as well. The large deck creates covered parking and a very nice covered sitting area. Although the house sits on a corner the landscaping creates a private feel that is great. Also downstairs has an awesome little "suite" that has 2 twin beds, a large futon, master bath, refrigerator & microwave. My other nephew joined us and him & my son (both older teens) enjoined the privacy this little cave gave them. It was great.
There were a few problems with the house but they are all understandable when dealing with a house rental. The Wi-Fi did not work and there was a ant/termite issue in the jack and jill bathroom. It was not bad and appeared to be a new issue, the office said they would get right on it when we told them at checkout. The beds were firm, sucked for me but a lot of my family enjoyed them.
We have rented a few houses before and we were used to having leftovers from previous renters, stuff like toilet paper, coffee filters, paper towels, trash bags, ext. They seemed to have cleaned it out before we got there, maybe we just caught the once that everything was gone, not really sure.
