Excellent cafeteria-style with homey interior (including a Memorial Board which is dedicated to long time customers). Family, multi-generational environment. Get there early for breakfast or lunch (they open at 6 A.M. and close at 2 P.M. during the week; open 6 A.M. - 1 P.M. Saturday; closed on Sunday) Takeout is available during those times, too. Very reasonably priced.
Flavorful vegetables that day including pinto beans, creamed potatoes, beets, and peas and carrots. Fresh fruit bowl and/or sinful desserts (my mom enjoyed a slice of French coconut pie). Meats are available (my mom had fried chicken, but I had a vegetable plate). Rolls or biscuits offered with the lunch meal.
Iced tea is served in a GENEROUS wide-mouth quart (maybe a quart and a half) Mason/Ball jar - adore the fact the restaurant knows 1) it has freshly made delicious tea and 2) tea is so good, the extra serving is already in the customer's hands. Servers even offered a to-go cup of iced tea with no additional charge.
Friendly, hard-working staff keeping customers happy and tables/floor clean. Sweet lady who owns/manages talked to us - her adorable, animated granddaughters spoke to everyone who came in or as they were leaving.
The directions given to us where a little off. It is located on East Lincoln Street and bordered by South College Street and South Maple Street, near a large elementary school (East Lincoln Elementary School). Is located in neighborhood surroundings.
