“Cabin itself is nice but lots of little things would prevent me from staying here again”
Reviewed 19 April 2017 for a stay in April 2017

My wife and I have been married 18 years and this was our anniversary to each other. We live in Knoxville so really have no desire to spend the day in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge when we have a cabin rented. We have two teens so the big things we look for in a cabin (that we can't get at home) are seclusion, hot tub, watching movies, and taking naps. And unfortunately due to the issues at this cabin we couldn't really enjoy most of those things. The cabin structure itself was kept up and the staff and owner were extremely nice and helpful. However the cabin had lots of small issues that may or may not be an issue for other people but I will list them anyway:

PROS:
Staff - Very friendly and nice. They even called us to let us know cabin was ready early. Also when I filled out my survey someone immediately contacted me.

Location - Very convenient to both Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge (10 mins to each).

Video Arcade - Sit-down console game was fun to revisit my favorite games from the 80's. There were probably 20-25 games on it including Frogger, Pac-Man, Ms Pac-Man, Galaga, Burgertime, Super Cobra, etc.

Seclusion - Cabin sits at the top of a hill. There are other cabins close by and if you sit on the front porch you can see them clearly. But on the screened-in back deck (where the hot tub is) you can't really see the other cabins and the only way for anyone to see you would be if they walked up into the woods (which one family did).

CONS:
Hot tub - Uncomfortable and small - probably the most uncomfortable hot tub I have ever sat in. One end is for sitting upright, the other end is for laying down but head pad was missing on the lay-down side. Several jet pieces would come off as soon as you turned on the jets so we just ended up leaving those off. This was also the first hot tub I have ever sat in that did not have a spot to set a drink. There is not even a flat corner of the tub where you could sit something. Instead we had to sit drinks on the ledge outside the hot tub and get up and down when we wanted a drink. No steps for hot tub - my wife is 5'4 and had a really hard time getting in and out. Hot tub also had black debris floating in it as well as being cloudy with a haze on the surface when we checked in [someone called us after a survey and said this was due to well water].

Wi-Fi - As as with most cabins up in the mountains the wi-fi is pretty non-existent. Some people may not care but if you NEED the wi-fi for work, etc then don't count on it. It dropped constantly (and that was when we could actually connect to it). Like I said, spotty wi-fi is pretty standard for most mountain cabins.

Cleanliness - When we checked in a lot of the plates and silverware had dried-on food that looked like the dishwasher just didn't clean them very well. We had to clean anything we wanted to use. The ice tray also had a long kinky black hair (my wife has blonde hair and my head is shaved) on it so we ended out dumping all the ice and using our own.

Bathroom - There is no fan in the bathroom. Maybe not a big deal for some people but keep in mind this bathroom is the only one in a very small cabin and it sits right outside the kitchen and dining room. There is a window though so you can always open it. Also the bathroom is downstairs and the bedroom and hot tub are upstairs.

TV - not really a con but just mentioning that the TV is 32" for those wanting to know (looks bigger in the picture).

MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT - The A/C can't keep up with sun coming in through the front windows. There are high cathedral windows that sit at the front of the cabin and around 3:00 the sun comes streaming in full blast. The daytime temps outside were around 80 when we stayed there. Once the sun came in and heated up the place, the inside temperature showed it was 80 in the cabin and would not cool down until late into the night (we had the thermostat turned down to 60 but didn't help.) This made us not want to sit in the hot tub because we were literally already sweating. Also the sun is so bright when it comes in that it is hard to see anything because it is so blinding (my wife and I would have to shield our eyes just to have a conversation with each other downstairs). Not to mention it made it impossible to watch TV from 3:00 - sunset. Also the bedroom upstairs gets hit by that sun so it is impossible to take a nap in the middle of the day because of those windows/sun. Now, when we checked in on a Friday the temps were only in the 60's. It wasn't until late Saturday (when temps got warmer outside) that we noticed the heat and then Sunday it became unbearable. I have no doubt that had we called they would've done their best to move us but at that point we were already 2 days into a 3 1/2 day stay so we didn't want to bother with having to move everything we had already unpacked into a new cabin.

In closing the staff and owner were very friendly and helpful but with the issues mentioned above would prevent me from staying here again.

John,

I would like to apologize for any issues you had at the time of your stay. The cabin has well water and will sometimes depending on how much rain or if no rain in a while causes the hot tub water to look murky or hazy at times. We have had the AC looked at , there was a burnt wire and has been taken care of . We have spoken with the owner of the cabin about their cleaners. We would have been more than happy to move you to another cabin or fix these issues if we were contacted during your stay. We tell everyone at check in to make sure to let us know if anything is wrong with the cabin your first 24 hours so we can fix the issues because if we do not know then we cannot doing anything to help you. We do think you for bringing them to our attention and will get right on it. We would like to invite you back in any cabin you would like to stay in and receive your return guest discount.

“Delightful, Cozy Cabin”
Reviewed 17 February 2017 for a stay in November 2016

This was the perfect location between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Although there are other cabins close by, it still had a secluded feel being at the VERY top of the mountain. The cabin itself had a cozy feel but was not too cramped. Perfect for 2! The staff was very professional and helpful as well. EASY check in and check out!

"Karen, Thank you so much for the great review. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Mountain Mist Cabin. The area that the cabin is located is very convenient to both towns of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and it is very peaceful surroundings of The Great Smoky Mountains which happens to be the back yard of the cabin. Again, we are pleased that everything was perfect for your stay. Thank you"

“Quaint and cozy”
Reviewed 7 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Love, love, love this cabin! It was cozy and comfy. I loved how peaceful it was, it is at the top of the group of houses so no traffic to disturb. The cabin was perfect for my husband and I to get away and relax. It is between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge so you don't feel like you are in the middle of all that busy area, but close enough to run get dinner. We could not have asked for a better stay-even in the rain! The staff at Heartland was so helpful and nice! We wifll definetly be back!!

“Comfortable, cozy, clean”
Reviewed 2 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Perfect place to stay with close friend or significant other. I was mostly concerned about cleanliness and Heartland Rentals delivered. Fresh clean smelling towels and blankets. Full kitchen in case you want to cook. Clean working hot tub. Beautiful view of mountains. A little more secluded than other cabins since it is the last one which was great. We had some water on the floor when we first arrived because it had rained. We called and about 20 minutes later someone came to clean up. No complaints here.

it was our honeymoon and first time staying at a cabin. We loved it. Very quaint and quiet. We enjoyed our stay some much we are planning on returning next summer with my son and his fiance and our dog. It was like a home away from home. The hot tub looked wonderful but we never did get around to using it. spent most of our evenings sitting on the front porch on the rocking chairs.
I would reccomend Heartland to everyone.
