Recently we travelled to the Yarra Valley for the weekend. As we got close to our accommodation we saw the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery. We hadn't had lunch yet and I was truly excited at the idea of a place dedicated to all things chocolate. Thankfully I wasn't let down!
From the outside this place looks great. As we drove up you could see the building perched on the edge of a hill overlooking a lake at the bottom with kids running around and having fun in the sun. Hard to resist really.
Firstly, there is a huge amount of parking here - at the bottom, on the side, right beside it. So don't stress about that! There is an ice-cream place right on the outside selling all the flavours you can think of. The day we were there the line was huge (there is also one inside too!).
As you walk up there is a life size chocolate block, just as a tempter for what is inside. Then there is the CHOCOLATE!! All the chocolate. Chocolate with freckles, with flavours, in the shape koalas or kangaroos, hot chocolate sets and more. Go nuts!
The food, now to the important part. We like to eat, big fans of eating! The day was crazy busy inside and the line was pretty long. This moved fast enough and the staff were always lovely to everyone.
Given that the food can be quite pricey in the Yarra Valley we assumed the food would the the same here, pricey and small. So we got a couple of hot chocolates (it is a chocolate shop people), a ham and cheese baguette and a pizza. This all came to about $35. After finding one of the seats overlooking the great view we waited about 10 minutes or so and then the food arrived. Holy Moly - the baguette was huge. It comes with a knife stuck in it so you can cut that bad boy into manageable pieces. Two people could easily share one of these and be completely satisfied. It was delicious. The baguette was fresh and crispy and just tasty on its own, the filling was a bonus. The pizza was pretty awesome too, although we both agreed the baguette was the winner. The hot chocolate - milk in a glass with a pot, yes a pot, of molten chocolate to make to your own tasting pretty awesome too.
Seating wise there are tables inside and heaps of seating outside, all undercover with some overlooking that beautiful scenery. There is also a filtered water tap outside as well as kids activities and things to keep them entertained.
I would recommend that anyone in the area take the time to stop here and enjoy the chocolate, the food and the view. You are in the Yarra Valley so take the time to sit back and relax. Service was good, food was great and overall an enjoyable relaxing place to visit.
