We travelled from Beechworth to try The Terrace because of its hat rating. It's not far but we would have done better to stay in Beechworth. The service was slow, the flatware scratched and unpolished, the glasses were typical of a bistro - these things all matter and add to the experience of fine dining, which this wasn't. We were kept waiting at the door for a minute or two while three staff muddled about. It's a problem having to use the bathroom in winter when it obviously rains, as you have to go through the tasting room, out the front, around the side, to the bathroom. Umbrellas should be provided given that the bathroom is outside. The bin in the bathroom was broken so paper towels and a piece of the bin itself were scattered on the floor. The food was okay, however, despite having booked several weeks ago and letting the restaurant know that we were both vegetarian there was only one vegetarian option for the main course and I don't think there were any for entree. Some chefs don't like to cook vegetarian and we understand that, but they usually let us know at booking so we can change our plans. We have visited many hatted restaurants around Victoria and this didn't seem to share any elements with the others.
