“Terrific service and top food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 January 2012

We went here for dinner. Everyone here was smiling, helpful and happy! It was recommended to us as it was open New Year's Day but it far exceeded expectations. Maybe because the owner was previously the Food and Beverage Manager at the Intercontinental Hotel in Park Lane, London (which had Egon Ronay status). It had to be something like that (so I asked, and then saw the 'photos which are displayed) as the food was fantastic and we were in a small town in country Victoria.

A fantastic country pub atmosphere. We met up with our weekend companions on Friday afternoon in the shady beer garden. Sarah was very helpful with local information about places to eat. We stayed in the Stables room which was perfect share accommodation for our close group of 7 friends.
What the hotel lacks in polish it makes up for in friendly service. Nothing was too much trouble and we were even provided with coins for our late night card playing in the lounge.
We ate at Mrs Browns on Saturday evening and the lamb backstrap was sensational!
A very memorable weekend in good value for money accommodation.

I stayed there a week or so ago and to be honest, it's very poor.
Rooms are not well appointed, no cups/milk, no shampoo, no conditioner, no electric blankets (Yes it gets cold there) windows dirty, shower screen all cracked and shower dirty (lots of stuff in bottom of shower when taps started..Door locks hard to operate, dark coridoors, meals no better than a take away, rude staff (not the owner the other girl..OMG) had to give me two bills and still didn't get it right. They don't do breakfast, I was told to go to pie shop next door for breakfast..
Just very, very ordinary , even 2 stars is generous.

Room Tip: Get a room in another place is best tip!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for our hotel. We have read your review apologise that the offer of comfortable, clean, affordable country hotel accommodation did not to meet with expectations on your recent stay with us. We have read through your comments and sincerely apologise for the areas of dissatisfaction. The management team will address them and work with both housekeeping and our staff to provide more consistent standards and customer service for guests.

Breakfast is not part of the hotel offer. Our listing has been placed in bed and breakfast not hotel and we are trying to change this through trip advisor with limited success. There are 3 cafe options in town for breakfast Buoni, Black Bull and Valentines - we will work to ensure that our staff are a little better informed on communicating these options for our guests.

Very friendly and attentive hosts in a relaxed and welcoming way. An old country pub, lots of character, shared facilities and great for a bike riding holiday with our friends. Bedrooms are just for sleeping but lovely shared lounges and friendly bar. The hosts waited for us to arrive on the Friday night from a wet and miserable Melbourne and we enjoyed a great meal and copious amounts of local reds with no pressure from the staff to nick off so they couuld go to bed!

We were there with a group of 10 close friends on a wine tour weekend. We stayed in adjoining rooms which were comfortable, nothing flash, but were clean, cheap and great to share with a close group. You had to use shared bathrooms but that was part of the fun and experience of staying at The Vic.

Room Tip: There are rooms upstairs with ensuites and ones with different bedding configurations. I would call...
