My wife and I stayed in Room 1 as part of a package for the weekend, which included The Blues Train on the Saturday night. The package was very kindly gifted by friends for my birthday and what an inspired choice it was, from our late check-in at 8.45pm Friday night to our late (just prior to noon). The room was sumptuous, large and tastefully furnished with a very comfortable King size bed and reclining cane furniture. The bathroom was also large and featured a corner spa. The semi-private balcony with views over leafy Queenscliff streets, was cool and inviting. I would love to sample this room in winter and put the open fire to good use. This entire boutique hotel has been renovated with an eye to its' original heritage. Breakfast was included in our tariff and it was lovely.

However, their secret ingredient, and one which is missed by many other places we stay at, is their staff. From start to finish, every interaction was with people who displayed genuine smiles and were genuinely interested in making our stay as special as possible. Money cannot buy that.

Room Tip: Rooms opening onto the front upper balcony are best.

This property has a beautiful facade and nice rooms. Very friendly owners and staff.

Breakfast is really good too.

We had dinner there as well, a fish dish. Local fish delicious white fish, unfortunately the delicacy of the fish itself was sort if ruined by a mexican style garniture. A real pity.

Room is nice and functional with a beautiful patio.

Downside is that the bed mattress is pretty worn out and therefore not so comfortable.

Internet in our room did not work throughout our entire stay so you will need to take that into consideration too.

Overall this is nice and friendly place for a stopover in a nice little village.

We stayed here recently in one of the large verandah rooms.... lovely, clean and comfortable... cosy and inviting! We love Athelstane house with it's numerous seating areas and friendly and helpful staff. Eating in the dining room is also a treat...the breakfasts which are included in the room tariff are delicious...my husband LOVED the bruschetta with avocado, onion, poached egg... We also had dinner here and my fillet steak was just delicious ....thankyou Laurel and staff, can't wait to come back!

Calm friendly environment. Great simple fresh fare, and true value for money. Queenscliff has some neat galleries and eclectic shopping. Wonderful history. Great all year round. Gateway to the bellarine peninsular, great wineries eateries and beaches, but chilly water!
