“Beware room 33”
Reviewed 3 March 2012

At the price we were expecting a nice big room, comfortably fitted out and in good condition. In room 33 there was barely enough room to squeeze past the enormous bed they'd somehow managed to jam in to the room to get to the rundown bathroom. There were dead insects in the light fittings, there was exposed wiring poking out of the ceiling, the carpet was threadbare, the tinyl tv which didn't have much reception anyway, was perched on top of a fridge in the corner of the room with a remote that was held together with bits of cardboard and sticky tape. The hanging space was tiny, the bathroom furniture was shabby and some of the other fitting were just plain broken. We were gudgingly moved to Room 14 after some argy bargy with the reception staff who seemed to think that guests arriving to see a performance of Fawlty Towers the next night might be upset if they had to spend a night in room 33...I wonder why!
Room 14 was a bit bigger so there was room to get in and out of the enormous bed and overall it was better fitted out but was still in pretty poor condition; even considering the age of the hotel. on a more positive note is a beautiful old building, the dining room and foyer are charming spaces and it is in a great location right in the centre of town. The breakfast was excellent with lots of hot and cold options and no shortage of food.
No doubt there are some lovely rooms in this hotel but we weren't in one of them and nor were the two lovely old dears locked in argument with the receptionist about their room as we were checking out.
I've stayed in hotels all over the world ranging from rat infested fleapits for the desperate up to the grand luxury of the 5 star playground for the rich and pointless and I would say that this hotel represents the poorest value for money that I've come across in a long time.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms facing into the courtyard... these seem to be where complaints about the noise are c...

Stayed a night at the Vue to celebrate a wedding in Queenscliff.

Rooms:

The room itself is a decent size, but is in need of a renovation. The carpets were old and smelly and the showers are plain nasty.

The only thing good about the room was the comfortable king size beds. The wedding reception held downstairs was blasting music until the early hours of the morning - it was so loud we felt like the DJ was spinning in our bedroom!

Location:

The location of the hotel is the best thing about the place, it's situated right in the middle of the main strip.

Breakfast:

Breakfast was OK, suprishingly there was a nice selection of hot and cold food. Breakfast was the second best thing about this hotel.

Overall:

Do yourself a favour and drive home rather then staying here. For the price it is not worth it at all.

Room Tip: Our room on the second level next to the fire escape was larger than others (according to the hotel...

The hotel is wonderfully located in the heart of Queenscliff and I constantly found myself thinking about what it would have been like in its heyday. It is a lovely, old building but is very tired and in need of a complete renovation.

We stayed in a standard double which was very small and had not been decorated or updated for a number of years. The $200 per night cost, including breakfast, appeared good value for money before our stay but ended up seeming quite expensive. The bathroom particularly was very disappointing with fittings that do not belong in this century.

There were some positives though. The staff were all very friendly and helpful during our stay and we thought that the breakfast was above average. The bed was also of a very high quality and we would have both slept soundly had the old fridge not been so noisy!

I understand that the investment to modernise the Vue Grand would be immense but the buildings deserve some love.

We had the pleasure of spending New Year's Eve this year at the Vue Grand and had a terrific night.

We booked in to one of the Spa Rooms which was spacious, spotlessly clean and everything you might expect from such a beautiful old hotel.

The New Year's Eve function was excellent - 9 courses spread out perfectly through till 11:30 - complemented by an excellent range of Bellarine beers & wines - served by staff who were genuinely engaged and happy to help.

Great music, lots of fun.

All followed by a wonderful breakfast the following morning.

Fantastic !

One minor issue - perhaps a later check out than 10:00 might have been in order, but it wasn't a showstopper.

We have stayed there several times before - would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: I would opt for a spa or bacony room if you can get one

Staying at the Vue Grand Hotel in Queenscliff was like a stroll down yesteryears lane - not only because I used to live and work there in my 20's, but because the place simply has got that sort of feel...

Stepping through the front doors, was like stepping behind the vail of time... Of course the hotel offered modern conveniences (minus the lift), but while everything holds the taste of yesteryear, our room overlooked the main street of Queenslciff and offered views out over the ocean and where the ferry comes and goes... modernised with a huge freestanding bathtub and massive double shower, it was slightly juxaposition, but just right for us...

We ate ample at the Queenscliff Inn (as we missed the fact that the Vue Grand's dining room is closed on Sundays) across the road (including great local wines) and really enjoyed the timeless feel of Queenslciff itself reflected in the room of old time architecture blended with the modern luxuries...

Definately a 3 out of 5 pillows - going by my personal rating system.
