It was a great experience for me. I think I have choose the right place to having my lunch and I really did it. It was a great place and good service. Due to scare of fully booked, I manage to make the reservation before I go. It was fully booked that day due to tourist from all over the world. Although fully booked, but i still feel comfortable with the environment. I feel just warm and excited. Of course, the food was delicious and variety kind. Sure will revisit again.

The Cuckoo Restaurant is such a lovely place to dine in the Dandenongs. It's a themed restaurant based on those in Bavaria with all staff dressed in authentic costumes and traditional German food and decor. It has a lovely atmosphere. We went for a Monday lunch which was very quiet - no floor show while we were there just a solitary piano accordion player. The food was beautifully presented but there was not a great deal of choice for the mains. The desserts were outstanding - so much variety! Tea and coffee was included which was great especially as we were given a pot of tea or coffee each! At (38.90, I think it was fairly expensive for what was provided on a Monday lunch-time. However, for the experience, it was well worth it. it's easy to see why this restaurant has been so successful for 54 years!!!

On a recent trip to Melbourne we went back to the Cuckoo restaurant in the Dandenong ranges.
The Cuckoo is a restaurant that is based outside of Olinda. It is a theme restaurant set out like a Bavarian chalet.

It is around a one hour drive from the Center of Melbourne and has ample parking. It may even be possible to get on a tour that takes you there.

Inside seems to be set out like i imagine a restaurant in the European Alps would be. The staff wear Bavarian style costumes which makes the experience a lot of fun.
They have a couple of bands playing Bavarian (i guess) style music, including singers that Yodel.

The food is a massive smorgasbord which has numerous different types of food, which i imagine would suit any palate. After soup and the main (including roast meats and seafood) is the desert area. The desert area includes a massive pancake pan where they make you fresh pancakes.

I have been to the Cuckoo on several occasions over the years and would recommend the experience to all.

See their website at http://www.cuckoorestaurant.com.au to get a more comprehensive list of what is provided with lots of photo's.

The food is great....and the fit out is another feast for the eyes. A real experience especially as a family. Our kids loved the entertainment, Andrew on the pancake pan, ringing the cow bells, and all that food! A bit of a queue to get to the food, but that lessens fairly quickly. A little bit of Disney in olinda. Who doesn't love a gingerbread house come to life?

The Cuckoo Restaurant is a very popular restaurant which is located in the Dandenong Ranges. The smorgasbord has soup of the day, fresh seafood and European delicacies includes roasts, vegetarian dishes, German sausages and traditional Bavarian dishes, as well as a full salad bar and cold meat platters.

There is a dessert buffet which includes cold desserts, fresh fruit salad and fruit platters, continental cakes and pastries, ice cream and pancakes which are made fresh as you wait. The charming building is designed in the Bavarian Chalet Style. The restaurant is located near (a car drive!) from Sassafras. Sassafras is a small town that has various shops which you can stroll through after your BIG meal at the The Cuckoo Restaurant. If you can there are cafe's offering Devonshire teas and more!
