Description: Situated on the shores of Bancroft Bay in the heart of Gippsland Lakes, Australia's largest inland waterway, the village of Metung has been a premier resort area for nearly 100 years. Metung Hotel is located on 4644 sq mt land on the magnificent waters of Bancroft Bay in the Gippsland Lakes. Lunch served 12-2 and dinner 6-8 daily (8.30 holiday season). Bar opens at 11am. We only close Christmas Day. Come and visit us for a drink, something to eat and or watch the Pelicans being fed everyday at 12.00 noon sharp. If its a nice day, why not have a drink on the boardwalk, right on the water. Maybe bring your boat and tie up. If you don't have a boat you can hire one locally.

Good food though limited opening hours is a pain with dinner served from 6-8. Consequently there is a bit of a rush to order at 6 which detracts a little. The bar is well located but has the usual awful horse racing and betting on the TV which is a put off for anyone not male and under 50. Why do bars insist on putting this rubbish on the Telly, I can’t think it brings in that much business esp during school holidays with loads of out of town families in. Bound to spend more if the environment was more welcoming.

As a fairly regular customer, last night was one of the busiest I have seen at the pub . We arrived without a booking as a party of 4 ( despite the hotel’s warnings on social media). Michelle is a magician in charge of the dining room, accommodating so many requests, and we had a table very quickly. We had first time guests to Metung with us. They were totally blown away by the food, the atmosphere and the view. We never tire of it ourselves. The staff were so cheery, gracious and amazing under great pressure. Well done at the end of a long ‘season’ Metung Hotel! Congratulations to you all.

The best thing about the Metung Pub isn't the food, the location, the staff, or even the historical significance. The the best thing is that you can take the kids, to the kind of pub you knew as a kid. So many pubs these days don't cater for families, whereas the Metung Pub does. The lawn is great for the kids to run around on, and they are sure to find a few friends as well. You can enjoy a reasonably priced drink, with one of the best outlooks in Gippsland. Kids meals are cheap, and a bowl of hot chip to keep them busy is even cheaper. Hat's off Metung Pub!

We had lunch at the Metung Hotel as part of a long trip on the Lakes with Peels Cruises. There was a choice of menus including a vegetarian dish. We chose the fish and chips and both were very good. The hotel has a wide choice of drinks available and we enjoyed sampling a Gippsland pale ale. Will definitely return the next time we visit Metung.

Initially we were surprised there aren’t many places to have dinner in Metung. 1st night at the pub and we didn’t need to look any further. Ate there the 4 nights, great selection on offer. The Panko crumbed scallops were absolutely devine, served with a garlic & chli butter. Calamari so tender we also had the 500gr Rib Eye & the Porterhouse. Cooked to perfection, Medium Rare. Drinks reasonable. If you arrive on a Sunday as we did from 2pm the have a jam session where everyone is welcome.
Dinner 6-8pm and if you want a table by the lake you need to book ahead
