Cheap and somewhat cheerless, but avoid Friday and Saturday nights

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 1 Feb 2023
Our stay was OK in as much as the bed and bathroom were acceptable for the price. - when the price is $125 or so. The trick is while they advertise $125 a night, Friday and Saturday night the prices goes off the scale. So read your proposal, even if you're in a rush. There are lot better rooms around at around $200 or more.
We stayed 4 nights and extended another - a Saturday. (Family matters nearby). The gentleman said $120 for the extra night but when I got my statement it was $189! It was then I realised I was charged that for Friday too. Re-educated in touch and go and not bothering with the receipt.
Sure these prices are not exorbitant in this day an age - for a reasonable establishment. While in the room the basics were reasonable, the room had a toaster and microwave but no bread plates or cutlery, only small bowls. Asked at reception and was give some disposable cutlery and pasta bowls . Great for toast! Apparently people keep stealing them or breaking them. So charge them and have something reasonable for reasonable people! The door didn't latch either without a heft with your shoulder and then caught only by millimetres. The chain was on and the chairs in place, don't worry. The room was only serviced once during our stay after we asked. The garbage truck came at 4.00Am or so and emptied multiple skips just nearby (on the premises) with all the beeping and backing, hydraulic whining, and diesel roaring you'd probably accept at $120 odd dollars a night, but really? My partner was ready to walk in the first five minutes with her usual abuse of my miserliness.
As you might have guessed, the pricing issue is what really gets up nose. The rest you probably expect and accept for a cheaper deal. But next time we're near Lilydale we may well pay $189 but we'll be looking for $189 value.
Date of stay: January 2023
Room Tip: The name says it all - Econo Lodge - may sure you're only paying for what you get.

Reception not friendly. Noise and partying all hrs of night, motorbike revving continuously all night. Loud voices outside my room and up and down ramp all night. Realised this was not from guests but that people live there, cld be housing commission.
Didn't feel safe. Definately not a family environment.
Rooms are clean tho, newly refurbished and nice but will never return again. It felt like a very shady hotel. In the morning we heard bags and bags of empty alcohol bottles being cleaned up. Awful environment for families and children.
Reception didn't seem to care about guests. No smile or conversation upon arriving or leaving. Business only. I feel it's just about making money and there is zero care factor for their quests or reputation.
My advice, do not go. I wish I saw reviews before going. I only saw them in the middle of the night as I was googling Econolodge Lilydale noise complaints. I was looking for a number to call then saw its reputation.
Scary experience 😬

Was attending a wedding in the Yarra Valley Saturday 10 Sep 2022 and was looking for a motel not to expensive and had to be clean and comfortable. Well that is what I got with this place. Booked on line and got a special price of $151 for one night for two of us. We got an updated room upstairs. You can either walk up stairs or the is a ramp which very easy to walk. (Wheel chair friendly motel). the room was very clean with soft white towels in the updated bathroom. Sheet on the queen bed where white and nice and crisp. Comfy bed. Motel is set back from the Highway and there is NO traffic noise at all. Would stay here again.

Room tip: Get an upstairs room as these have been updated

Avoid this place if you can. Rooms were unkept and dirty. Room facilities were less than adequate. It is a budget motel in every respect. Cheap price = cheap service. Difficult to sleep with noise from other guests. We will chose elsewhere when we next visit Lilydale.

No. No. No.
Arrived around 9pm.
The smell of stale cigarettes, riff outside the room, the constant coming and going of vehicles obviously not guests.
Packed up our belongings at 11:55pm and begun our journey to another hotel.
What the hell.
Is it a drug den?
Arrive at new hotel 1am smelling like we had just done snow angels in an ash tray, gobsmacked at our terrifying experience. 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
