Surprising

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 11 Aug 2019
The room was average, though warm enough with the heaters on, and the shower worked relatively well, and the bed provided a good sleep.
The thing people look out for in a hotel room is a good sleep, a good shower and security. You need to be able to feel secure and that you have privacy.
We were quite surprised that when we were in a state of undress and without any warning a person was peering into our room through the "locked" door! We had the door locked from the inside and had placed the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the outside handle.
The basic courtesy of a knock or a warning was not provided, they just barged in on us unannounced. You would think that if you work at a hotel, the basic concept of respecting peoples privacy would be the first thing you were taught. Unfortunately not here. A master key means do as you please.
Not really impressed...

Stayed for 3 nights, with breakfast included. Steeped in history and surrounded by acres of land this is a must visit site. Atmosphere of tranquility and needs to be preserved for future generations . A place that can be visited in all seasons. Close walk to town. Staff delightful and helpful.
Look forward to our next visit.

Beautiful art deco building furnished in a nice 1930s style in the recreation areas of each level. My room was on the first floor, good sized room, well furnished and very clean. The ensuite was surprisingly large which was good and it also was very clean. On checking in was advised the wifi was currently down, but that was no issue for me anyway.

My daughter and I booked the twin share room. It was fantastic for the price. The bed and pillow (yes the pillow) were comfortable and cosy. The rooms had plenty of space and the bathroom was large. The continental breakfast was only cereal, tinned fruit and yogurt. There was only white bread left when we arrived. If you have a family, it would fill a gap (but it comes with the booking so didn't worry us). We walked down to the main street the other mornings. If you enjoy walking, the Linaker is on a large hill covered with beautiful trees, many very old. The Asylum is on the same grounds and is within walking distance if you'd like to do the tour. Take your own mug as their cups are about 2 mouth full. We would definitely use this hotel again.

On our short overnight stay in Beechworth we were looking for something a bit different and this is what the Linaker is. The façade is original and also the communal lounge areas on each floor with art deco furnishings which is a lovely touch. The rooms are very comfortable with neat furnishings and the ensuite bathroom is lovely. As it is heritage listed only the top floor of the building has cooling however the windows open widely and there are standard fans to use. It was wonderful to imagine what went on in this building back in the day.

Room tip: In the height of summer request a room on the top floor with air conditioning.
