Amazing! The zoo is great and there is one whole section devoted to local animals. The kangaroos and other animals just roam freely for the most part. I had looked for inexpensive tickets and found that my credit card had a "deal" with 2 tickets for about $10 off total (AU$ so like $3.50 a ticket). That doesn't sound like much, but the promo said we would get an "exclusive" guided tour. I figured it would be some bored kid and 30 people. I was WRONG.
Tony was a retired postal employee who clearly loved the zoo. He took us all around. He was so knowledgeable, and he showed us things we would have definitely missed on our own, like an adorable koala baby clinging to its mom or JR, the 60-year-old something or other that was brought over from a Texas zoo (his species was from New Guinea, though).
Tony was just great and I couldn't belive I'd saved $10 AND got this awesome tour.
Pro tip: get your tickets before hand, take the ferry, and walk to the "lower entrance." That way you don't have to queue up for the busses. Walk through the zoo towards the entrance and enter the "Australia" exhibit from the lower part.
