Cool and friendly staff, awesome location 1 min walk from the beach, daily updated jobs board, big common areas with ping pong table, swimming pool etc

You will feel like in an 80s surf TV show.

Lots of different people to hang around, beautiful receptionists and even cooler night managers to keep you safe at night :)

I would recommend this hostel for long stays as it is a little bit far from the city center. However there are buses every 15 minutes that will take you straight to the CBD

One problem though are the hostel rules.

Collaroy is a beautiful but residential area and therefore the hostel has strict rules in terms of noise and alcohol.

YHA Collaroy Beach house is the 1st YHA I visit years ago. The abbreviation of full Name---Youth Hostel Association--always make Sydneysiders confused for long from the beginning. Finally I understood the it is a Worldwide Backpacker hostel solely Owned by NewYork Owner who have very close relationship with most popular brand name drink ---CocoCola Corporation USA. Actually, I experienced the magic of CocoCola drink at YHA Collaroy Beach which is no where else. It was only functionable in YHA worldwide to saving the cost and time of guests before going to bed every night. Moreover, I am typical American Blonde girl looking qualified as New York City standard cosmetic model. This might justify I got the opportunity to experience the Magic. Also the 1st Sydney YHA was setup on the date of my husband's 1st Birthday after we first met. It was also justify my lucky to experience the rare Magic of YHA. The early YHA property interior (Bathroom/Kitchen/Theatre/TV room/Sauna room/Laundry etc)and courtyard designed in very professional way. For example, the MacDonald restaurant looking Dinning room etc followed all the essential policy of Occupational Health and Safety. The height of ceiling facilitated the bunkbed with 2 deck. The maximum number of bed arrangement in a room is up to the limit but not too crowd. The defect is the American Language skills(reading/writing/listening skills) of staffs which is always make Business owner frustrated. All staff have no knowledge who is the property and business owner and Staff is just staff not Business owner. Hospitality staff is providing Service to clients in the instruction of Business Owner and Industry standard. Staff should always bear the mind in their heart who is the Owner/ the Boss. Because YHA is such a big Company with so many hostels, staffs in the network have no chance to see the NewYork Owner by person but working Manual and appointment letters. YHA is YHA, a typical standard USA registered professional business, following all the business laws of USA, UK, Australia, Spain. If U prefer this kind of business but have a lot of complaint about the service, U should speak out for yourselves and all your friends to change the world.

The individual room with ensuite was clean and spacious. A great place if you just want to sleep and shower.
Room has no fridge.

However, there was no heating so the room was an ice block as it does not get any sun throughout the day. I recommend a small heater for the room as you can only get warm under the blanket.

A floor towel is also very much needed to not get water everywhere and keep feet warm.

Staff should really offer maps regarding free parking before getting to the hostel. The free parking was difficult to find.

This place was great I stayed 4 nights. I didn't want to be in the middle of the city but it was only 20 minutes away if I wanted. The beach was right there for swimming and relaxing but it was raining a lot. Good surf lessons. The staff were the nicest people. Always happy and helpful. I will stay again when I return to Sydney,
Thank you
