When I plan a holiday in the UK for me, my husband and our dogs, I google the words “luxury, self catering, dog friendly” and Felin Hedd ticks all those boxes and more.
This is a special place: the quality of the finishing of this former threshing mill is excellent. Its location means that its “away from it all” and there are wonderful views from all aspects. Yet the hosts, Aled and Stacey are close at hand if needed.
There are four good size bedrooms: three doubles and a twin which also has two additional ‘pull out’ beds. While Felin Hedd is large enough to accommodate family groups (up to 10), as a couple we still found the place cosy and welcoming : there is a wood burning stove in the main lounge but the whole accommodation is well heated by a ground source and stays warm even on wet and windy days.
The kitchen is well equipped with a range cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and microwave. There is a bathroom with a walk in shower on the ground floor, a good size bathroom on the first floor and cloakroom/utility on the ground floor as well. The enclosed garden ensured that our dogs were kept safe yet still had the freedom to run around.
The lovely master bedroom (king size bed) also has a balcony—you can watch the sun rise over the hills if you’re up early enough and weather permits—and it sees the sun for most the day.
While the website referred to a “mezzanine floor,” I called it “the snug” as there were two comfortable two-seater sofas and a set of French doors leading out to a balcony. At the end of the day here we could enjoy a glass of wine or two and watch the sun set (it doesn’t rain every day in Wales!)
The only shortcoming (and this is a very small one) is that there is currently no free Wi-Fi, though I know Aled and Stacy are looking at addressing this. Still, we got a good 3G signal though some may think this isn’t even a shortcoming as its good to get away from the digital world for a bit!
All in all I would thoroughly recommend Felin Hedd. A lot of thought has gone into making this self catering accommodation a cut above the rest. Much thought has also gone into the access needs for those with limited mobility if required.
Thank you Aled and Stacey. We will definitely be back!
