Stayed 3 nights in mid September. The location is superb, with easy access to Snowdonia National Park. Even the grounds of the hotel are beautiful, with its own access to a cascading waterfall.

But the real gem is the manager (owner?), Alan. He gave us some lesser known locations to try on our days out, which turned out to be spectacular! Watkin Path, Whistling Sands, are examples.

The restaurant food is lovely (we had the lamb twice), and the brownies were amongst the best I've eaten.

The best recommendation I can give is that we want to return.

We has a very enjoyable stay at this hotel that is about six miles north of Dolgellau. Being one the A470 its location allows exploration of the National Park.
The Hotel is situated in what was a country estate going back several centuries.
There are about ten rooms in the hotel and run by a family rather than chain it provides a more individual and, we thought, pleasant experience with good a good sized room.
The staff are helpful and the food is good served from a Bistro style menu. If staying for more than a few days it might become a little 'same'.
Breakfast is excellent essentially consisting of initially yoghurt, fruit and croissant followed by eggs and bacon. We found the quantity just right - often places provide such a large breakfast that after a couple of mornings you can't face it any more
The only real disappointment was the lack of television channels but given the location of the property there seems little they can do about that as satellite reception isn't practical and I doubt the internet would tolerate the bandwidth draw. Having said that, internet does appear to work in all rooms which is a lot better than some places where it seems only to work in the bar.
We spent most of our time exploring further north on this visit but we may return some time as the local 'falls' are apparently well worth the bother and there is plenty of good walking in the area.
All in all we felt it was sensible value for money - another location wanted £165 just for a boring standard room and no breakfast!

Had a lovely one night stay in this hotel tucked away in the beautiful surroundings of the national park as a couple of friends went on a two day driving trip from London to Wales and back. The staff went out of the way to ensure my fellow driving buddies and I had our lovely motors parked right up in the front in a reserved slot. Made for some amazing photos! Further, I had a very comfortable sleep following the walking trail we followed right outside the hotel and through the forest. Breakfast was swift and delicious and overall hospitality was top notch. If I make my way to Wales again, I'll be back here!

Very nice reception -- The Innkeeper offered to make us dinner even though it was so late when we arrived at 20:00. They showed us to our room on the top floor. We had two bedrooms and a bath for our family of four. The room was very clean and comfortable. The bed was a bit warped but so be it -- The pleasant sounds of bleating sheep allowed us to drift off to our restful sleep for the night. The country air was very clean. The beautiful and magnificent Mountain Views from our room was amazing. We had a delicious breakfast — first scrambled eggs cooked all the way through on our European journey. This property has beautiful grounds. Before we left, I got a quick tour of the
1000 year old original room with bowed rafter logs in the original part of this country estate. We could have easily stayed here two or three nights for a country vacation in Snowdonia NP. The little town of Dolgellau was interesting with stone houses throughout, but this little town seemed just a little bit depressed. Snowdonia is a beautiful scenic park. I recommend this B&B wholeheartedly as a wonderful stay within this beautiful region of the world. Cheers!

Booked to stay here as a 3 star country hotel. Alarm bells rang when we pulled up in front of a building in need of lots of maintenance the dead hanging basket was not the kerb appeal I was looking for!

Check in was mixed nice building but awful decor plus very confusion on check in as, owner, I think clearly thought we were someone else.

Shown to room and first thoughts were can I go home! Very small all furniture a mis match and whilst clean at ground level don’t look up!

Went downstairs to find bar and restaurant. Found something looking like a bar same lady as on reception appeared and we were informed that there was no restaurant that evening due to staff illness. Asked for wine list there wasn’t one - only 3 bottles of red to choose from ie one of each!

Talked to other residents who informed us that there was no restaurant previous evening, again they were not informed on check in. They, however, did take a look at the restaurant, in the cellar, and in their opinion it hadn’t been used for a long time.

My advise is for this establishment to stop marketing themselves as an hotel and to invest in being a B&B.

I will never return as price paid was not budget but mid range and hat we got was only worth £50 a room not the £120 paid

It’s a shame to see such a fabulous building and location in such a degree of neglect

Sir I am sorry that as the hotel was full when you arrived and that you were confused about our room naming policy (unclear where you go the idea you had booked a superior room as we do not have such a classification on rooms) the photos and descriptions on site are for specific named rooms you selected as on your paperwork all the rooms are named and as you agreed was the same as the website, the door you opened to the room next door was a grade higher than yours which you could have booked on the Saturday you booked yours as it was available but was £30 more per night and as it was booked to a guest so as you requested we could not give you that room for the same price you paid, we always try to accomodate but it was already booked out.

I heard you discussing with all the other guests how terrible it was that we were not running a restaurant that night, again our appologies If staff are ill given our location in a small village it is not possible on a few hours notice to find alternative staff. However happy you enjoyed the meal at the nearby restaurant. And as it happens no other guests had intended to eat in that night.

As you could imagine the celler restaurant room is not heavily used in summer mainly for Families or people wanting a party instead the conservatory bar is used overlooking the garden.

It would have been nice to know if the cleaning of that room had been an issue someone would have immediatly rectified whatever was the problem, you do not say just that it was above! could have been added to the checklist for day staff to avoid any possible repeat.

And again sorry that you had personnaly had a dissapointing stay, and the family you referred to giving you advise on the restaurant had a wonderful stay celebrating his 50th birthday and this is the challenge of not being a multiple hotel with standard furniture and offering we are what we are a small family run hotel in the middle of the largest forrest in snowdonia with waterfalls in the garden, We are also currently in the middle of a drought which we have avoided effecting our guests but plants in the garden get the minium neccasary to survive and definitely no hoespipes at the moment but this You would expect!
