“Relaxing Break”
Reviewed 22 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

This Converted Barn is finished to a high standard and the location is ideal for walkers or cyclists. We traveled as a family with three young children and always found something to do in the area. We did travel a bit for a day out to greenwood forest park. The barn is cosy and the underfloor heating is fantastic for the slate floor. The log burner in the lounge is also a nice touch and brings warmth to the barn. Karen was always to hand if we needed anything and husband Gary had good info. There is plenty of literature in the Barn to look for things to do, walks, cycling, days out etc. There is a small playing field for your use to relax or let the kids run around. The views from this barn are idyllic and very relaxing. You can hear the wild life of a night time, especially the owls. This is a place we would look to come back to again. Thank You to Gary and Karen for a memorable stay.

“A clean and modern barn conversion that's a brilliant place to explore from”

The barn has been converted to a really high standard, with a modern feeling. The fittings are very high quality and everything has been kept beautifully clean. The owners are really lovely and happy to help and advise, if you need it, or leave you to enjoy the peace and quiet, if you don't. We were worried it would be cold in February but the whole building stayed warm and cosy day and night. There are plenty of radiators and underfloor heaters, plus the log burner. Beds are warm, cosy and come with good quality covers.

There is a fridge, oven, 2 burner hob, kettle, toaster, iron and cleaning appliances, so everything you need. The downstairs is really spacious so you've got plenty of room for a good sized family. We travelled with two adults, two teenagers and a 4 year old and didn't find we were tripping over each other. It also has a log burner to give a nice warm glow in the evening. Wifi is really good and was reliable for the whole stay. The owners have also provided a good supply of DVD's to watch if you fancied staying at home.

Upstairs has a really nice bathroom and two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two singles. There is plenty of land to explore around the farm, with fields, streams and orchards to walk around. There are also some good longer walks for the more adventurous.

Dolgellau and Machynlleth are nearby for eating out or shopping and it's about 30 mins from Barmouth if you're after the beach. I really recommend the Royal Ship in Dolgellau for some great food at good prices. You can fairly much get to any part of North or Mid Wales within 1.5 hours so its a great base for exploring. Roads are excellent too.

The views all around the property are spectacular and we all enjoyed watching the planes zooming overhead. Don't worry this doesn't happen early in the morning or evening so won't disturb you.

The lane to get to the barn is quite steep and bumpy, but doable in any car. It just comes as a shock the first time for us townies.

We loved staying at Craig y Gronfa barn and would certainly stay here again. It was excellent value for money and I would highly recommend it.

“A serendipitous encounter....”

My friends and I had a great holiday here. The cottage was really spacious and felt very cosy with the fire and heating. It had everything you could need to enjoy a week away. There was also a lot of land to explore if you want to just go for a walk and enjoy the country side. Mount Snowdon is also only 45 minutes drive away. The sites from the cottage were spectacular, even with cloudy weather. The couple who owned the cottage were very accommodating and friendly . It was great to get away from the city and relax for a couple days here, it makes we wonder why I don't move somewhere more rural myself !
