I recently stayed at Bikers Retreat with my brother-in-law John and hosted by the very capable Nigel and Tiv. We came in from Derby so just over 3 hours of travelling time on a day that threw all kinds of weather at us. Torrential downpours with flooded roads to some dry tarmac and bright sunshine.

We arrived to a warm welcome from Nigel and Tiv in need of drink and food and found them very accomodating. We parked in a secure bike garage only to find John's Fireblade needed a new rear tire having picked up a nail somewhere near Welshpool.

Nigel laid out a clear plan to get us into Aberyswyth on Saturday morning, get John's tyre changed and then on with some serious riding. The roads in this area are fantastic, even in the wet conditions we experienced. Nigel and Tiv are very experienced riders, know these roads well and offered the best they could given the weather conditions.

Bikers Retreat accomodation and food was fabulous. Good range of anything for breakfast, recommend the full English using only the best sourced local produce. Turns out even the Chef and staff are all Bikers too. Dinners, 3 courses, great portions, well stocked bar and able to review the days ride outs, as Nigel's GSX-R is equipped with a rear facing camera recording all the footage, over a beer or three!

Rooms very comfortable, warm, a dry room to dry out your leathers/cordura's, boots/gloves, etc. Our room had on-suite bathroom, both shower and bath, coffee/tea facilities/ TV, etc. I managed to scratch my clear visor but Nigel even came up with a solution for that using a polishing compound to get it back into a good state. Nothing is too much trouble for this team! This is a mecca for riders of all types - hyper-sports, sports, sport tourer, tourer, off road, etc and even mountain bike riders - the business caters for both types equally although I think this business was set up by bikers for bikers!

We're going back in September, we reckon we deserve to do the same trip again but with the sunshine this time. So if you are looking to be looked after properly, fed well, great location, great advice, help, etc you CANNOT go wrong here. By the way I work in the IT industry, I travel a lot around the world and I am a really fussy git. I really enjoyed it here - so will you! ;-)

I stayed here a few years ago (probably before 06 actually but I feel this hotel deserves to have a good review on this site and perhaps others will add more up to date reviews. I'm a single female and not a biker. However, I found the place to be very welcoming and clean. I felt safe, which is of some consideration to a loan female traveller who appreciates a respectful, friendly environment.

The rooms at the back, which are not part of the main building are very clean, comfy and spacious indeed. The internal rooms are very nice too, but the room that I stayed in was not quite so spacious and as I can feel claustrophobic quite easilly, I personally prefer the external rooms. The breaky is great.

All of the bikers staying here were respectful, gentle, kind and helpful people. They all get together for a bikers' run together (now and then) in this very beautiful land called Snowdonia. The group bikers' runs are organised very responsibly by the proprietor and I was amazed to learn that people travel even from the east coast to share friendship and enjoy these experiences together here, which is really nice. I was even invited to join them on the run, which was really nice of them, as taking a passenger means that someone can't have quite so much 'fun' on their bike apparently. I would have loved to have gone out with them but I had to drive back to the Midlands that day, unfortunately.

When they are going out on a bike ride the next day, they don't drink much and they don't stop up late, so that's usually on the Friday night I think. On the Saturday night they all relax and have a drink. There may be some slight noise from chatter affecting the rooms upstairs, in the main building, above the bar, but no-one is disrespectful, i.e. no-one is making a noise outside the bar (being silly). I don't think Nigel would stand for this. The external rooms at the rear are exceptionally quiet.

We all had such a laugh in the bar, though of course some of the biker banter went right over my head! The proprietors Nigel and Tiv make a good team. They are friendly and very lovely.

The hotel is well located for bikers, just off the road into Dolgellau. As I recall it is not located right in the town centre of Dolgellau and it is not in a particular countryside setting either, but it is very nice indeed.

There is obsiously loads of parking. There are all sorts of facilities for bikers, garages and all sorts and I note that they accomodate mountain bikers too.

Do not hesitate to stay here, especially if you are travelling solo.

And if you are not a biker, absolutely do not let this prevent you from staying here!
