The lodge was lovely and clean and spacious inside. The kitchen was very well equipped and the bathroom was fabulous too with big bath and walk in shower. Beautiful comfy beds and bedding/decor although the two sofas were very uncomfortable. We spent many hours in the hot tub which was ok for 2 people but rather cosy for 4! One of the highlights was watching the wildlife from the lounge or from the hot tub. I've never seen so many birds including all sorts of different tits, chaffinchs, robins, blackbirds, jays, woodpeckers. Plus squirrels, mice, shrews, hedgehogs - it was great watching them all obviously helped by all the trees and plants surrounding the cottage which does make it slightly dark inside but not gloomy like another reviewer wrote.
On the description it said about the many paths and walks which crisscross the countryside but sadly this was not the case. There is a busy road which you can hear from the lodge with no path along it so walking our dogs would be too dangerous. We were not made aware that you CANNOT walk up the lane past the lodge as it is private property and after a 5 minute walk up the lane we saw a grand house in the distance and turned back. We saw a sign saying no unauthorised people beyond this point as you enter the driveway so assumed as we were staying in the Lodge we were authorised to use this lane. Just as we were about to reverse out of the lodge driveway a big range rover blocked us in and continuously bleeped their horn at us, a woman then approached us and proceeded to shout at us the following. .... did you just walk your dogs up this lane?! You are not allowed to use this lane! This lodge has nothing to do with this estate! We have royalty visiting here! Lady Elizabeth gets fed up with people in this lodge! If you do it again I'll call the police! Well..... She was absolutely vile and the rudest person I've ever encountered (and working in retail I've met quite a few!) She ranted on and on not letting us speak whilst wagging her finger at me.... if only I'd done the window up and chopped it off! We actually laughed as we were so taken aback. Apparently there should have been a note to the lodge guests to warn us about this but there was no mention in the booklet. I was very angry and upset so I phoned the owner immediately and told him what had just happened. He was lovely and said he'd been on the receiving end of her before and apologised that we had to experience this verbal attack on our long awaited holiday.
We found some lovely beaches, visited Canaervon castle and my husband and daughter climbed Snowdon so apart from the old goat encounter, enjoyed our week.
Just returned from a great weekend at this spacious clean lodge will be going back to this one. Thanks
The Lodge has been modernised to a good standard and feels very spacious. However it is surrounded by large mature trees so you need to have the lights on particularly in the kitchen/dining area.
The outside patio area needs some attention as does the surrounding garden which is overgrown with weeds and brambles. The sun does get through around mid-day but if you plan to sit out of an evening the sun is blocked by the trees. There is also constant road noise (you do get used to it after a few days) from the main Pwllheli road.
There is a hot-tub but again this is tucked in a shady corner - would never use one of these as I have my doubts as to the cleanliness of them.
The bottom line is get out and about as much as you can weather permitting of course.
