“In a good place”

Penty Mochyn is indeed an old barn, more or less dug into the hillside so downstairs is kinda dark, especially with the beautiful but dark floor. But. i don't mind a dark bathroom or bedroom, as long as the light works. And it did. The beds are excellent - memory foam indeed takes a little getting used to - ample closet space, tv's with dvd player in each room, very efficient floor heating and all looking very well maintained and clean. Bathroom is kinda small but it has everything you need, including bubblebath. Bathroom was clean as well (no mystery hair are milldew) but a little less wellmaintained with two lightfixtures hanging by their threads. Upstairs is the lighter place, with plenty windows and a brilliant view of the sea and incredible sunsets. Kitchen is large and has all the things you need, including a double oven. Closet/fridge/freezing space is ample. It doesn't look brand new, but it was clean and hey: it's a kitchen.
The couches were indeed brand new and so was the huge tv! Points of critique: wifi was kinda slow, the door to the cabinet a little wobbly and there were no medium sized glasses. I've had worse.
We also loved the chickens, their fresh eggs, the ducks (hilarious), the cats, the dog and the horses. It was just brilliant.
I liked was the information book inside the house with just enough tips - both do's and don'ts - to keep it manageable but still extremely helpful ( like where to eat, which walks are good and when not to go to Shell Island). In the introduction the owners explain they let their guests decide whether they want to socialize with them or not because they believe people value their privacy. Might explain why they don't come across as overly friendly. But when we needed them, Mike was friendly enough and very proficient in problemsolving. So there.

“Cosy Cottage”

We ended up staying here while the weather was at its worst, however it was lovely and cosy with a great view over the sea. Comfy memory foam mattress (takes a bit of getting used to) and the bedrooms were very well heated. Upstairs did get a bit cold with just the one radiator which could not be adjusted, but after speaking to the friendly owners they were happy to get an additional heater for us to use. Good sized TV and reliable WiFi service.

A few signs of wear and tear in the property, nothing major, just a few improvements which I am sure will be made in time by the owners.

We have now replaced the 9 month old sofas (that were made to look old and scruffy by a small dog being allowed on them), with more new leather sofas.

“A Real Little Gem!”
Reviewed 23 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We had a very enjoyable stay at Penty Mochyn. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. The owners, Jan & Mick were friendly and helpful. Beautiful views of the sea to enjoy whilst relaxing with a cuppa! Great area for dog-walking. This is a real little gem and we would definitely visit again.

“Great Cottage and Location”
Reviewed 20 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We stayed for four nights and had never been to the area before. In fact it was the first holiday with our 5 month old daughter!

The cottage is wonderful. Surrounded by pigs, horses, chickens, sheep and ducks and a huge picture window to view the sea and magnificent sunsets. The beach is a ten minute walk away down a pathway and walks are on the doorstep. Our hosts were very friendly and we had the right mix of being private but knowing help was there.

We used it as a base for Port Meirion and Snowden - and even got as far as Anglesey - so it's pretty well situated too.

I'd highly recommend the cottage and will be returning...

“Bit disappointed”
Reviewed 8 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

This place is a picturesque hillside location , with stunning views of the beach. Unfortunately we didn't find our stay that comfortable I agree with the previous reviewer , the bottom floor is very dark and seemed to smell of damp , the bed was unbelievably hard I couldn't even sleep on this and spent the holiday in single beds or on sofas which is not the best thing when you pay for a holiday to be 'making do'
The gentleman owner did come out on arrival to show us the place but hardy spoke really the rest of the time , the lady not at all and even tho we waited around on departure day no one came over to say goodbye which seemed rude even tho he had been wandering in and out of house :(
Didn't find it dog friendly had chickens in garden that I thought seemed bad if you had dogs that didn't like birds our dog was kept well away
It had wifi which was a plus because couldn't get any phone signal so could stay In touch with family via this but for a 5 star place you expect this anyway
Don't think it was worth the money

I am sorry that you found the bed hard, as this is a new Memory Foam mattress which previous visitors have asked for. If you had let us know (we are around constantly) we could have swapped it back to the old conventional mattress - there is never any need to 'make do' as we have spares of almost everything!
Yes I agree that the bedrooms can be dark, especially if you keep the blind closed - this is because it is an old barn with downstairs bedrooms! The open aspect of upstairs more than makes up for this, in my opinion.
This is a new conversion and complies with all building regulations for damp and insulation.
I'm sorry that you were waiting for me to come and say goodbye, but the practicalities of this makes it very difficult as people leave from 6am to 12noon - it would be invasive for me to keep popping over to check if they are leaving yet. Most people see me doing the horses or just pop over to say goodbye when they are ready.
