One of the highlights of my week in Memphis. Great small Museum, almost hidden away on Main St with an extensive private collection of Chinese/Japanese art, mostly Jade. Learned a lot about the different types/colors of Jade that I never knew existed. Also a moving exhibit of Judaic Art and Holocaust stories by local residents.

A great little gem in old Memphis. The bulk of the museum consists of Chinese art, mainly carvings of jade, ivory, tiger-eye, malachite, azurite and so on and the workmanship is simply amazing.

A smaller section is devoted to Jewish artwork from Europe and a section on the Holocaust, which is heartbreaking. It isn't quite as awe-inspiring as the Asian exhibit, but there is some very interesting material.

Well worth the trip to downtown Memphis.

We were surprised to discover this museum in downtown Memphis. Many local people do not know it is there, and it is not very advertised.

The jade carvings are breathtaking, grand and represent a wide variety of themes and carvers. To think this was once a private collection takes my breath away!

You could easily spend two hours enjoying the culture these exhibits exemplify. It is a lovely change of pace from the bustle and lights of downtown Memphis and Beale street.

When you are in Memphis, what to visit if you are not into Elvis Presley/Grace Land? Need to go to the Belz Museum of Asian & Judaic Art. Were there early in AM, and quite impressed by this collection of Chinese/Japanese art, exquisite details in the numerous carvings om display, beautiful workmanship. The Judaic art is interesting as well, need to see this first and than the Asian display, is quite a contrast. Well worth the money.

Totally worth $6 per adult to walk around and take in some amazing works of art. Along with some history. I would not recommend small children that have problems not touching things.
