2nd visit. Would highly recommend. Cottage very cosy. Plenty of walks near the cottage. Dogs loved the walks. Killin is only 2 miles from the cottage. Sara and Nigel, thanks very much for the welcome pack. We hope to book again shortly.
Friendly owners, central location and just a great cottage surrounded by pine trees and a view on the mountains. Killin is a nice nearby little village. Easy to find and reach. We can totally recommend staying here.
We spent a week at pine cottage in July and what a great little cottage it is. It has everything you need and more. The cottage is set with 4 other similar cottages but it is still a very peaceful location. We had to change our booking at short notice from June to July and Nigel and Sara were very understanding and allowed us to do this. The walk to Killin village takes about 50 minutes and is via a pleasant woodland walk, once off the short stretch of the A85. As we are keen hill walkers the only thing I would suggest the cottage needs is a drying area for boots and wet jackets as we didn't want to be bringing them in the cottage. Other than that our stay was perfect and could have stayed longer.
I Liked the cottage and loved the view from the doorstep, there was everything that we needed for our stay and a few extra touches that showed the owners cared about our booking. The views were lovely, one afternoon I was watching the birds on the bird table and they quickly scattered. "bloody heck" a kestrel passed right in front of us chasing them away. We were right on natures door step! There are a few other cottages close by on the grounds where Pine Cottage is, it's a secluded location but your not entirely on your own with a few neighbours nearby. The town of Killin was nice, with some great places to eat and we found everywhere was dog friendly which was really handy. The walk from the cottage was ok, but we did not find a route into an area where we felt confident that we could let the dogs of lead without worry about livestock. However, it was still a great place for people with dogs. Happy to recommend the cottage, and we may come back one day.
My wife, 9 year old son, small dog and I spent a week at the delightful Pine Cottage. This was our first experience renting a cottage and could not have been more pleased with our accommodation. Instantly felt at home, cottage located in a beautiful setting and was furnished to a very high standard (my son particularly liked the single bed). Every utensil/appliance required was provided, log burner was needed on a couple of evenings ....even in July, and the welcome pack much appreciated.
We were fascinated by the uninterrupted views N, S &E from the cottage, and the number of visitors to the garden and surrounding area and included woodpeckers, blue jays, various tits and finches, red squirrels, bats, deer, overhead - buzzards and even a golden eagle (I'm sure..). With my limited knowledge of wildlife, the provided bird book was a regular reference point and various other house books and maps were very useful.
Some lovely walks directly from the cottage using the old railway and around Loch Tay, though unfortunately the cycle path path to Killin was blocked due to fallen trees.
Great base to explore Loch Tay, Callander, Comrie, Crianlarich and further.
Will definitely return in the hopefully not too distant future - Thanks Nigel and Sara.
