“A perfect week”

Having visited pretty much every Scottish western isle we finally got round to Bute and booked Bogany Cottage as it looked nice and comfortable. We certainly weren't disappointed as the photos of the cottage don't do it full justice. The cottage is very well sited and just a short walk from Rothesay town and was the perfect base for our stay. The house is warm and comfortable and the sizeable garden catches the sun throughout the day. We were lucky enough to have a week of fabulous hot and sunny weather so took full advantage of this.

If I'm honest we had gone to Bute with rather limited expectations really but how wrong could we be!
We were amazed to find beautiful scenery, truly jaw dropping period architecture, fabulous sandy beaches and warm sea, fascinating history, the extraordinary Mount Stuart, Ascog Fernery, Ardencraig Gardens and Aviary and lots and lots of really friendly people.

If you enjoy cycling you will love Bute as the well surfaced roads are very quiet and, although a tour of the island isn't that long in distance, there's plenty of diversions to take and lots to see on the way. The Post Office and cafe at Kilchattan Bay provides excellent refreshments if you need them too! Even if you don't it's well worth a visit.
Runners are also spoilt for choice with nice flat road running on the coast or more challenging hills both road and off-road above the town.

Another example of how friendly this island is; on Friday night we went for a beer and pizza at the excellent local micro brewery "Bute Brew" and ended up chatting with some local folks. After half an hour we found ourselves invited round for lunch with them the following morning!
An extraordinary act of kindness and hospitality the memory of which will remain with us for ever.
In fact everyone we met on Bute were extremely friendly and enthusiastic about their island.
They have good reason too as it is an undiscovered (for us at least) gem which we can't wait to return to.
This was the first of what we intend will be many visits to both Bute and to Bogany Cottage. Both are highly recommended!

“Beautiful cottage, mixing traditional style with modern comfort”

We loved staying at this beautiful cottage. It had everything we needed, the children (1 and 3 years old) loved the kitchen/dining/living room as it afforded them so much space to run around. The underfloor heating was brilliant as you might expect an older style cottage to be cold but this was very toasty. The bedrooms were also very comfortable and the cottage was only 10 minutes from the town centre so very handy too. We would definitely recommend the cottage to family and friends.

Liked best: The large kitchen, dining, living area gave great space with the vaulted ceiling
Liked least: Some of the flooring creaked a fair bit which was a slight issue with children that we didn't want to waken!!

“Perfect weekend away in Bute”

Bogany Cottage is the perfect place to explore the wonderful island of Bute. Situated close to the ferry (so close you can tell when they are passing due to the chugging of their engines) it's an easy 10-15 minute walk or a very short drive through the island's only set of traffic lights (I believe!).

Everything about the place is great and it's perfect for a relaxing break to get away from it all. My dog (and we!) especially enjoyed the wood burner and the under floor heating. Lovely place and we hope to come back.

“Cosy, dog-friendly cottage with character”

We spent a lovelt few days at Bogany Cottage in our October break. The cottage is in a great location, just 5 minutes drive from the ferry terminal at Rothesay, with lovely views across the bay and up towards the Arrochar Alps.

From the outside, Bogany Cottage is really pretty and has plenty of parking space plus an enclosed garden which our dogs enjoyed exploring. Indoors, it is very comfortably and stylishly appointed. We particularly liked the high-ceilnged, open-plan living room. When the weather was bad we felt lovely and snug with the log-burning stove on. Bedrooms were large and beds were big and comfortable. Everything was clean and in good working order.

The only minor issue we had was with the shower. On the first two days the hot water seemed a little sporadic, and the water pressure wasn't very high. Otherwise - absolutely perfect!

Great to find such a high quality holiday cottage which is pet friendly.

“Excellent Cosy Cottage!!”
Reviewed 20 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We had a short 2 night stay in Bogany Cottage in Oct, the cottage was of a good standard throughout, everything you need when away from home, the location was good too with a lovely view of Rothesay bay and a ten minute walk along the promenade to the centre, the log burner made the cottage very cosy in the evening!! only a few minor downsides were the water pressure, the pillows, the underfloor heating was difficult to regulate and the driveway was difficult to navigate as it has a very narrow entrance, apart from that I would thoroughly recommend this cottage for a base to explore the Isle of Bute.
