“A great rustic getaway”

We had a wonderful stay at Hill Cottage. It's rustic, as the ad says, but that's what we were looking for. It takes 4 hours to heat enough water for a bath, and you should expect simple evenings in cooking, eating and playing board games beside the wood burning stove! It's in a beautiful location with views over the loch from the garden, and surrounded by good walks up along the river and in the woods. On our journey to and from the cottage each day we twice saw a deer and always saw/heard plenty of birds. Plus the ever gushing river. The only thing I would say is that the track up to the cottage is hairy - we only drove up it once, on our first day, and parked at the bootom thereafter! It would be fine in a 4x4 or bigger car though. Anyhow, walking the last bit just adds to the cottage's sense of really getting away from it all.
We cooked over a open fire one night which was fun. The cottage's kitchen is suprisingly well equipped for rustic accommodation - great pans and plenty of everything you could need in the way of utensils and so on. We used the second bedroom as a larder to keep food as cool as possible - keeping the door and curtains closed and keeping the ice box in there.
The owner called us before we booked the holiday to let us know what to expect - living without electricity does make for a bit of a change! And there's a lot of information provided about living in the cottage as well as things to do nearby. We ate out at the Royal Hotel a couple of times which was lovely, great service, and another highlight was a sightseeing boat trip from Tighnabruich pier. Definitely recommended. There is also the beautiful beach past Millhouse a couple of miles down the road.
The cottage delivered everything we expected, and we loved it. Definitely would consider going back again in the future.
PS. The midges are as bad as people say. We took plenty of "Skin so Soft" lotion and there was also a bottle in the cottage - this is essential!

I cannot recommend this cottage enough!!

Four of us arrived at around 3am in the morning, would not recommend this to anyone else (but we were warned) and once we had given up trying to get the car up the hill and resigned to walking - we were blown away with the place.
The cottage is beautiful and provided the perfect relaxing environment, the dog was in his element, and was free to roam in the streams and around the grounds.

As for for the local, the residents were so friendly and helpful, we were all made to feel welcome and everyone we met was friendly. the village itself is beautiful and has quite a few useful amenities - although i would recommend a trip to the co-op in Dunoon.

If you book this cottage i recommend a few places to eat:

* Colintraive hotel: the best food in Scotland !!
* The oyster catcher: has the best view we saw all holiday.

If you are a fan of walking then the cottage has some great walks coming straight from the front door. and if you have a dog - this cottage is the perfect get away for all of the family. I can honestly say none of us missed electricity.

We are all planning a second visit!!
