The beauty seems to overpower you as you look over the Loch. My husband, son and myself loved it. We hired the boat which was fun. My Son went swimming most days. . We were lucky with the weather.
The night sky was breath taking we went outside in the evening and gazed at the millions of stars. The Milky way was visible and we watched shooting stars wiz across the sky which has NO light pollution. Pure magic

“Great location in atmospheric lodge”

We (family with two kids, 2 1/2 and 7 years old) had a great week in the Storr Lochs Lodge. The location is great, one has a fantastic view over the lochs and the Old Man of Storr. In the beginning, we were worried that there could be noise from the main street passing the lodge, but we were at no time disturbed, there was hardly any traffic at night and during the day, we were on our trips around Skye anyway.
Although the weather was not perfect (around 10-12 degrees at night, 14-20 degrees during the day), we could get the Lodge warm.
There was enough space to spend a rainy afternoon inside even with two small children.
We had everything we needed for our daily routine.
The reason why we didn't rate the lodge 5 stars is that it is quite old. The carpets on the floor (sometimes a little smelly if you come too close with your nose), the bathroom without bath screen or the fact that there is no dish washer result in points reduction. For us, this was part of the atmosphere of the old lodge, but for some guests this might be unsatisfactory.
Communication with host was fast and friendly.
Thanks for the great time we had! We can recommend the Lodge and will be glad to come back one day.

Management Response
21 Aug 2015
I am very grateful of the time taken to review the Lodge. I think some of the points you raise will be answered by the fact that work replacing all the windows had to be postponed in February, my being unable to get to Skye through being unwell. You mention carpets, well I am sure you will see that replacing these has to be after the major work on the
windows.I cannot wait to replace the Living Room carpet the one that has a very hard life, and other replacements at the same time. Many thanks, hope you come again, Mary B

“Fabulous cottage in a stunning location to explore Skye”

Storr Lochs Lodge was the perfect vacation get-away rental for my fiance and my parents (who were visiting from the USA) to explore Skye. Conveniently located just 5 miles north of Portree city centre it gives access to the Trotternish peninsula and we gave it our best to take advantage of this location. We explored and took walks all within a car drive of the cottage - I would definitely recommend a car if staying here.
With views of the Old Man of Storr from the living room, you feel surrounded by the beauty of Skye by staying here. The lodge is located directly on the loch and when taking a bath, it feels that you are almost submerged in the loch itself. Our first morning, when coming down the stairs I was stunned by the reflection of the clouds on the still loch in the morning sun and knew this was going to a holiday filled with the beauty of the natural world. You feel like you a going back in time a bit by staying at Storr Lochs lodge- the decor is a bit 1970s (bright green carpet in the living room), you don't see too many other people, a fire every night in the hearth, the sound of the loch against the side of the house - this is part of what makes this a holiday I will not quickly forget.
My fiance is a keen fisherman and he fly fished the Storr Lochs nearly every day (staying at the lodge gives fishing rights). We rented Mary's boat during our two week stay and even though it does not have a motor we found that it was a decent price when compared to other boat hires. Fly fishing the lochs is not necessarily easy in terms of the amount you will catch, but my partner caught a fair few of the brown trout and he caught three that we kept for dinner - super delicious!
My parents stayed in the downstairs bedroom as they do not manage stairs well. The upstairs bedroom has great views over the loch and the bed was made into a double for me and my partner. It was very comfortable and it was handy to have our own sink in the room Both bedrooms have views over the loch and are airy and comfortable.
The living room is comfortable although a sofa and two armchairs instead of four arm chairs would be nice. Mary left us with coal and fire and even though it is summer (it is Scotland!) we had a fire nearly every night. There were plenty of blankets in the house and once we figured out the storage heaters the house keeps quite warm. The hot water is very efficient and very hot - so careful not to scald yourself!
I thought the kitchen was well equipped with basics and enough plates, cutlery, and glasses. The cookingware again is basic bit fulfills all requirements.
The bathroom has a lovely heater to keep warm and while there is not a shower it does have a shower head attachment to use while in the bath.
The wi-fi could be slow at times especially if I was trying to do some uni work and my parents were also on their laptop - but this is Skye after all and we shouldn't of been on our computers!
There is a lovely outdoor area and garden that our dog enjoyed - the fact that this cottage is dog friendly is definitely an added bonus. An addition of a bench or some outdoor furniture would be great - but we brought our camping chairs with us so were fine when we wanted to enjoy some of the sunshine.
Mary is a very accommodating host and we were able to contact her throughout our 2 week stay and she was always helpful. She even left us a nice bottle of wine to welcome us on arrival. Really you couldn't ask for a nicer more friendly person to rent from.
This was definitely the best cottage for us to stay in on Skye - I hope we can come back again.

“Beautiful cosy cottage with spectacular views across a loch and the Old man of Storr.”

I highly recommend this property. I stayed at this property for a week with my spouse and relative and we were amazed with the beautiful views across the loch and the Old man of Storr in the distance. This really is a great place to stay if you want a relaxing and romantic break away with your partner. The cottage is very cosy with a fireplace and sufficient supplies to make a few fires. Also the cottage has plenty of heaters with at least one in each room including the bathroom and the hallway. During our stay the weather was quite stormy and cold but we felt very comfortable and warm staying inside the property. We also discovered that the location of the property is very conveniently located within a mile or two away from Portree town centre which is a great place to eat out, buy postcards, souvenirs and food shopping from the local supermarket. The property is also about a mile away from the Old man of Storr and Bearreraig Bay which are both great country walks to do. The property itself has all the necessary equipment any home would have with a properly equipped kitchen, excellent internet wi-fi, washing machine, iron/ironing board, clothes horse, towels and toilet paper. Finally, the booking and checking out of the property is completely hassle-free and I would stay at this property again in the future.
