The setting of Dundonnel hotel is fabulous, on the side of a beautiful loch and positioned at one end of the classic An Teallach traverse.

The owners and staff are very friendly but it was irritating that the serving staff struggled with understanding English. This resulted in lengthy negotiations if any deviation was required from the menu. It also resulted in errors in the bill. This was, however, set to righs by the owner without any fuss.

Breakfast was excellent but the quality of the evening meal was disappointing, especially at the price (£18 for salmon steak on a bed of salad with new potatoes)

The twin room was sufficient in size and cleanliness. The hot water was slow in coming through the taps but great when it got there! I would recommend it to a friend

I would like to thank all our visitors for their positve remarks and to thank them for thier honest reviews. At this early stage in the Season our seasonal staff have only been with us for a matter of weeks, thier spoken English is developing and it never ceases to amaze me how very quickly they learn our language however it would be fair to say that during thier first few weeks there are a fair amount of misunderstandings both culturally and with the written word. so thank you for your patience and be assured that this an area that we are working hard on.

Our new season menu is launched on 19th may and listnening to the reviews we have looked carefully at the prices and creative content of the menu we look forward to hearing how the new menu is received by our future guests and visitors.

Your reviews are printed and placed for our staff to read and digest, we hope we respond positively to constructive critisim and that praise is passed on to all of our staff on your behalf.

After being refused accommodation and/or food countless times in Western Scotland, we finally found just what we were looking for in The Dundonnell Hotel. Our enquiry about traveling with a child and a dog was met with a welcome affirmative, and when we arrived we found the whole place was immaculately clean, with a relaxed feeling that suited the mood of our trip. I smiled when I read the the points about the staff made by the previous reviewer (although I do not appreciate the racist remarks and uninformed views on local politics) -- but the whole thing just sort of worked, and we felt very much at home. The menu could do with a little imagination, but we really enjoyed eating in the lively pub, playing pool and singing along to the oldies. Good breakfst, too. The setting of the hotel is breathtaking and nearby hill & bog walks are wonderful. Although we stayed only one night, it will certainly not be our last!

A lovely hotel, clean and warm would deff recommend it. The room was nice and clean and large with pleanty of space and fresh smelling with gorgeous views of the loch, the bathroom was spotless and the bedding crisp thick cotton sheets. Lovely. If you're going to do An Teallac I think this is the best place to stay. The bar prices are fine for food and drinks, the real ale is excellent and the food is filling and good. Really enjoyed our stay.
I've read a comment somewhere about no hot water, well in these old Scottish hotels you often have to run the tap for a good while (ten mins) to pull the hot water through as if it's not busy or you're first up the pipes are full of cold water, it's that simple. Once the hot water is pulled through it's at a good pressure and there's loads of it, keep an eye on the bath it fills fast! I've also read the shower didn't work (room 12) yes it does, just pull the hot water water through!!
Now the if''ee bits...... the Scot's don't seem to like working in the North West of Scotland (preferring to sit on the harbour walls drinking Tennents from cans complaining about their lot and blaming the Enginsh for everything, yes this is SNP area) The staff are all Spanish, they work really hard and try really hard but they have very very limited English speaking skills so ordering breakfast or a meal is quite interesting, they managed to get about half our orders wrong; writing your own order on the tab doesn't help as the cook is also Spanish, I'm sure it will get better as the season matures. My advice is to 'pay as you go' in the bar with drinks and food and don't put anything 'On the room' as the lack of English speaking skills leads to incorrect tabs. After we'd gone through our tab and took off the bits we'd already paid for, and added the bits they had forgotten it actually went up, I like to be honest.
DON'T LET THAT PUT YOU OFF, it's actually quite funny to experience, you will really enjoy this place.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Loch.

Located at the beginning of an amazing loch, and in stunning, remote countryside, you can't beat the setting . Rooms were a good size and clean, but the decor was a bit busy for my liking and quite pink in one room! Bed not the best, just used extra duvet for padding. We were the only ones staying in the hotel but dinner was available (very good qualiity) and breakfast great too. Lots of parking opposite.

Although remote there seemed to be plenty of regulars at the bar in the evenings. The music nights on Monday and Wednesday were very good.
Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who were very helpful and friendly. The food was good although if staying for a few nights there was no change to the menu and the restaurant seemed to give priority to the daily coach parties that arrived.
