I visited as part of a week’s long SCUBA diving trip, having never visited the Isle Of Man before. I had some initial reservations about an unknown place however these were rapidly dismissed as groundless, the more I interacted with the islanders, tourist/dive sites and staff of Discover Diving.
The island is very pleasant and relaxed with a happy mix between southern English coastal towns and Scotland accents in the overall appeal but with its own Manx flavour. The waters are very clear and have abundant marine life including playful seals which I can personally testify to interacting with on several occasions.
The staff at Discover Diving are exceptionally capable, facilitating and enjoyable to live around for a week. This included using the dive centre, centres accommodation and dive charter boat; all of which I could not fault. This comes from the experience of using many other dive charter across the entire UK. They were able to give highly skilled advice on the otherwise challenging conditions which prevail in planning diving trips to the Island, notably but not solely, in the area of tides. Unlike some centres, Discover Diving is very diver friendly, catering for Nitrox, Trimix and Rebreathers, alongside single and twinset divers with ease. The centre also caters for experienced to novice divers and snorkelers with easy access to shore and hard boat diving. Endeavour, the centre boat is brilliant to dive from and well ran by the staff.
The dive sites available are very very good, offering a range from technical, deeper wrecks to shallower, scenic dives with the potentials for Basking Sharks and almost certainly Seals. Marine life is more plentiful than many other places, with large amounts of a large variety of life. On land there is a plethora of sites to visit including castles and world famous water wheels.
The dive accommodation is comfortable and more than up to the task of looking after a group of travellers. It has two toilets, a shower, a full kitchen and a mix of beds and bunks. This includes separate rooms for couples or travellers wanting more privacy. There is also a common room and very handily, free WiFi. Weather permitting, a BBQ is also available.
There are ample eateries around the island with a particularly delightful Italian and Chinese restaurant/take-away just by the dive centre. There is also a wide range of other restaurants nearby.
All told a great experience to the Island which I would recommend to others, divers or otherwise. For divers, I would definitely recommend Discover Divers as highly professional and exactly the type of centre which can make a good trip, better. 5 stars.
