Reviewed 19 February 2016 for a stay in December 2015

We stayed at Kirkmay Cottage over Christmas. I'm writing this review now having given the company time to respond to our comments which they have failed to do. Kirkmay is tired and in much need of upgrading. The heating is by electric wall heaters which are inadequate. There is an open fire in the living room but fuel is not included. The fuel we had to purchase locally cost an extra £60. The hot water is a danger to young children and needs sorting as does the shower which is a joke. The Dishwasher is a table top one which is wedged in underneath the worktop and is inadequate for 4 people. The worst part was the double bed which dipped in the middle and should be destined for the skip. Location is slightly out of the Village but within easy walking distance. This property has great views but sadly that is about all.

“KIRKMAY COTTAGE & THE NUTTINGS”
Reviewed 27 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Our family recently stayed in the 2 cottages in Crail. We have stayed there before on 5 occasions. Last year we completed an "in house" questionnaire and left a few points which we felt needed addressing. The TVs and DVD players were old and totally inadequate. The screen size was so small you felt compelled to sit very close. There was an ongoing problem with the local council about refuse collections. We inherited 2 full dustbins which we had to empty ourselves by trips to the local tip/recycling point this is something clearly not acceptable. We concluded that the only way we would return to these cottages was if our points were rectified. I contacted Kingask early 2014 and was assured the TVs and DVD players had been replaced with better appliances. It was said that in essence the cottages were given a major makeover. The person giving these assurances was an employee we had dealt with on our previous visits. We felt an effort had been made so we booked 2 cottages. A week prior to travel i visited Kingasks website and looked at the photographs of The Nuttings cottage. I was shocked to see exactly the same TV as last year. I contacted their office and voiced my concern. I was told the employee had left the company and was told a few days later he had left "under a very dark cloud". We arrived in Crail on 23rd Aug and found that one cottage had a new 32" screen TV installed (the box was in the refuse bin). We went into the office and explained the TV in Kirkmay was poor and was given a slightly larger one (not new). Our DVD player was dated 2005 (9 years old)Our new DVD discs did not play properly with a constant flickering screen. Other points picked up this time included some furniture was tired and in the case of a settee frayed, there is no clock in either property, the play area for children was unkempt looking with a shed in a dangerous state of repair(ie rotting wood). This was not a safe place for young children. The refuse situation is ongoing the company suggested i complain to the council personally. This is not something you expect to be doing on a holiday. I appreciate many of the residents in the area also suffer this frustration. I have received an email from Kingask replying to a few of my comments. The employee previously mentioned was sacked for being "untrustworthy" It was also mentioned TVs etc were on the to do list for the general maintenance. It was pointed out to me that though the appliances were old and dated they still worked. I found that to be absolutely no comfort to me. If those words were used in their brochure/website(old and dated but still work) then i for one would have never booked.

“Very comfortable, well appointed cottage in a super location, with stunning views.”

Kirkmay Cottage is a very comfortable, well appointed and well kept property, with a high standard of cleanliness throughout, whilst the quietness of the location make for a very relaxing holiday. The garden is secure and well maintained with spectacular views to the Isle of May and beyond; whilst lounging in the swing seat! The centre of Crail centre is only a short walk down the road. The whole package with Kingask is first class from first booking assistance to departure, and a stay at this property is highly recommended.
