Sadly I have not had time to go to Sturminster in the last 12 months. However I needed something from a specialist supplier based there and of course went to POES CORNER for a coffee break.
I am happy to say it has not changed or gone down hill as many places seem to in these times of financial unease !
The owner was not there but his family and a member of staff are every bit as efficient as when he is there not always the case in too many places, I was unlucky with the baklava but had a really nice moist piece of fruit cake with a latte. One nice touch while I was there was a knock on the window from the seating outside by a disabled lady prompted an immediate response and service Well done poets corner! Sadly Sturminster as a town seems to be dying slowly so I worry this café might face problems in the future so please do visit if you are in the area and keep some of the good guys from disappearing or being engulfed by the CAFE NERO s etc

We stopped in for morning coffee and took in all the local color of Sturminster. It is a small town that was formerly the cattle market of England. Alas, there are no trains that run through the town and the cattle market is no more.

For the last four years I have visited Poet's Corner as we cycle from Bournemouth to Minehead and this year back again.

Yasser, the owner gives such a such a warm and friendly welcome to everyone who comes in. The food is excellent ( always for us a cooked breakfast of some kind ) washed down with a fantastic coffee. (It's also excellent for parking bikes as there's a safe covered area).

Yesterday, cycling back, I had a problem with the bike and went in for a coffee again. Yasser insisted on ringing up the local bike shops to try and help me out and offered to take me to or if I cycled and there was a problem, to pick me and the bike up. As I was in a bit of a muddle Yasser also refused to accept any money for the coffee!

That is what I call excellent customer service from a man who clearly cares about people.

Thanks again Yasser for your help and I'll see you again with the cycling guys

Pete

Wow! This place is amazing! Nothing is too much trouble for this lovely man who runs this cafe! The food is homemade and made with love! We fell in love with this little cafe and couldn't go home without visiting again on our way home! My daughter had the hiccups and not one of us noticed except our lovely man who brought her a glass of water. He offered to charge our phones and was very friendly. Not all the cafes or pubs around here are very friendly so we were so pleased we found this place. On our next trip to Dorset we will definitely pop in for the delicious homemade quiche!!!
Thanks so much poets corner cafe for being part of our memories!

If you want comfort food or just a decent cup of coffee then this is a great place. I always end up getting the moussaka but they do have quite a selection of lighter foods like paninis and salads. You can also get all the standard fare you would expect from a cafe in a small Dorset town. For example, the English breakfast is very generous and the chips are always really good.

The location deserves a mention. Lots of outdoor seating, a view of the Blackmore Vale, and it's right on the cycle route to Blandford, so if people-watching is your thing then I would recommend pitching up here on a sunny afternoon.
