Description: The River Exe Cafe is a floating barge just off the Ski lane on the River Exe, and is in the heart of Exmouth’s water sports fraternity, wakeboarding, waterskiing, kayaking, sailing to name just a few, however it is also situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, protected by Natural England. Open from April to September only . The Exe Estuary is home to many rare birds and creatures including Avocets, Osprey and of course our friendly grey seal. With the potential to take up to 100 people on board the Cafe has been designed very much like the “Ski in Ski out” wooden chalets found on the ski slopes of many ski resorts, but with the intention that the quality of food and service exceeds all expectations of the external look and feel. The barge has a licensed bar and covered outdoor space with heaters and indoor seating to relax well into the evening without suffering the cold. Customers to the barge really are of all ages and walks of life, ranging from the usual river users and water sports enthusiasts to bird watchers, artists and holiday makers. Special events such as birthday parties, anniversaries, stag & hen parties to corporate & team building days can be arranged. Private and exclusive use of the barge is also available.

Fabulous experience with wonderful food, fabulous service and an amazing experience. The ferry journey to the cafe itself is lovely and the seafood was amazing. Highly recommend the chowder and the mussels which were both excellent.

Only thing to watch out for- google maps sends you half an hour away if you just type in 'River Exe Cafe'. Make sure you use the postcode to Exmouth- happily we realised this well before hand but our companions had an issue!

The ferry journey was enjoyable with a really friendly skipper, this set the tone for all the staff, helpful, interested with smiling faces and the patience to deal with lots of little requests even when busy

We both had steak, something we rarely do now due to high prices and poor quality, we the steak we had was exceptional and the overall main and dessert were excellent

Must go again soon

This is without a doubt one of the very best restaurants I've ever been to! I've been lucky enough to visit here 4 times now and every time I'm amazed by the food. The neptune platter is (as was described when we took the in-laws last time) a seafood extravaganza!

Simply stunning. It's more than just 'dinner'. It's an experience. From the boat ride, to the greeting, and then amazing food and great wine. The service has been excellent every time I visited, and the food has blown me away!

I would talk for an hour about this place, but I won't. Go yourselves and write your own review. I can't wait for next season to do it all over again (several times).

On top of the bill for your meal, you also need to pay £5 per person to get the return boat ride to the restaurant. Luckily this is well worth it as it's a quite a long and scenic journey and adds to the whole excitement of the experience. The floating restaurant is very cool! The staff were friendly to us and our waiter was really nice. We shared a vegetarian starter which was fine but exceptional. We then shared the seafood platter, the centerpiece of which was whole roaster gurnard which was absolutely delicious. This was accompanied but crab, scallops (delicious, but not many of them), mussels (nice but quite small) and juicy prawns. On the whole it was very nice. The purple potatoes it came with were a bit hard and floury tasting.

It's not cheap, but it is a novel experience and the food is generally to a high standard.

Open 6 months of the year (from April through to September), this restaurant is well worth the visit. Really fresh seafood - very well presented although they have other items on the menu. Outdoor and indoor seating - we chose indoor to keep out of the sea breeze. Good quality food and overall a great experience. The River Taxi to the restaurant (from Exmouth Marina) is £5.00 return.
