“Wonderful Widdecombe”
Reviewed 22 April 2017 for a stay in April 2017

A wonderful home from home, so nicely decked out. Relaxing after a day on the Moor on comfortable sofas with the log burning stove was amazing. Alona is a very accommodating hostess. We loved it and will be back.

Really quiet accommodation, very usefully well-prepared. Fantastic spot to see the stars. Our second visit, we plan to return next year.

“Lovely few days walking on Dartmoor”
Reviewed 20 March 2017 for a stay in March 2017

Well located as a base for a day of exploring, and 10 minutes walk from the nice village of Widecombe itself.

Finding the farm is quite easy and there's a parking space outside. My tip would be to put the nearby Rugglestone Inn into your sat-nav as that directed us the better way in via the village, as opposed to a more fiddly yet direct way that it wanted to take us if I just put the 'Shilstone Rocks riding centre' in.

When we arrived one of Alona's staff was on hand to let us in, whilst Alona herself popped by the next day to check all was well. The cottage itself is pleasant and comfortable. For a couple staying it has everything you could need. There's even wifi if you really must get in touch with the outside world, although the isolation (no phone signal) was a bonus in my view. The floor downstairs can get a tad cold so take some warm socks or slippers.

The site is a working stable business so expect people to be around outside the building during the day. Also expect the odd traffic to come past on the road. If you're up the village of an evening you will need a torch to be safe walking back down the road after dark - luckily there's a torch provided in the cottage.

We got really lucky with the weather considering it was March, which was a bonus!

Both local pubs are well worth a visit, both do decent food. Also the 'Cafe on the Green' has a resident dog wondering between tables to say hello whilst you have a post-walk hot drink!

A welcome and very nice few days away.

“Excellent Accommodation and Location”
Reviewed 4 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Stayed for week commencing 30th July. Location and accommodation stunning. Cottage refurbished to a very high standard. The owners are appropriately friendly. A short walk takes you onto the moors or alternatively to the the elegant Widecombe in the Moor serviced by two very good inns and two cafe. We will be recommending this property to friends and family
