Im a young professional and have stayed in many places all over the world this is probably the worst I have ever been treated. These people are NOT hospitable at all. I have left shocked by their threatening behaviour which is a real shame as this was between the Christmas and new year period we arrived happy and left feeling quite low.
We intended to go away on a walking holiday, I am from near Dartmoor and know the area well. Unfortunately these dreams were cut short as we were asked to leave by them turning off the power / gas / and water after one night before we had finished cooking breakfast and without warning.
They walked into the property un announced more then once. We had booked 3 nights, the first morning they walked in to do a full inspection. we had in fact cleaned and hoovered so the place was spotless and they pointed out some water which had just been spilled (which dried up moments later) and some tiny marks under the stairs saying it was not up to there standards, I think they believed that there would be more to point out be in fact we had been very respectful of the space.
I do believe in leaving positive reviews but I also believe in warning people when I think a place is inhospitable. If you want to go somewhere and live under the treat of them turning off the power if they don’t like you then go here. P:S they live next door and watch your every move, very unnerving.
I believe these people have had a bad experience and are very jumpy and ridiculously over protective of there accommodation. I feel a bit sorry for them in fact and hope they can find it in there hearts to see the error of there ways if they are to continue in this business.
This is the second time we have stayed in the Oak Barn, the Barn is stunning with a 4 poster bed in the main bedroom and a stunning bathroom that would rival any luxury hotel. The kitchen/dinning/sitting room has the benefit of being light and airy, the kitchen is high end with granite worktops and beautiful hand made cupboards. All in all a fantastic property that I'm sure we will come back to again and again.

We were lucky to have a short break for a birthday celebration and stayed in this cottage for its proximity to Gidleigh Park. The cottage is very well designed and exactly as described on the website. It is part of a small farm in a tiny and very quiet hamlet. it is an upside down design with a field outside and was lovely to see horses looking into the sitting room window! Clean, spacious with an excellent kitchen, lovely bathroom and comfy bedroom. The kitchen has everything you need, good oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine. A lovely homemade cake with a bottle of wine was a nice welcome. The bathroom was lovely with a huge bath and great shower. Plenty of hanging space in the bedroom. Wifi very very slow but maybe no bad thing in such a peaceful location. Owners unobtrusive but available for any query.
This cottage has been beautifully crafted by its owners and offers cosy, clean and very comfortable accommodation in a stunning location. Easy access to the moor straight from the door, a 5 minute stroll down the lane to a rustic Dartmoor pub with a reputation for great food and riding from a very well run yard, a 5 minute stroll in the opposite direction.
If you crave a home from home cottage with freshly baked cake on arrival, peace and quiet and the company of horses outside your window then Oak Barn is the place for you. Richard and Becks are unassuming hosts who are on hand if you need them but be warned, if like mine your husband is into working with wood you may lose him in Richards workshop for a while!
A really lovely holiday is guaranteed if you stay at Oak Barn.
There is one big problem when you stay at the lovely Oak Barn and that is you do not want to leave! From the moment you arrive when you are greeted with a lovely freshly cooked sponge cake, fresh eggs and a bottle of wine, the peaceful surroundings engulf you.
Hosts Belinda and Richard are there to help if you need them, but they do not imping on your time. The Barn is ideally located for tours of The Moors and importantly is seven minutes walk down the quiet lane to The Rugglestone Inn where the meals are really great.
We highly recommend a stay in this beautifully constructed and fitted barn.
