We started by having a Sunday roast, washed down with a local ale (well, I did at least). The food was fantastic, just what the doctor ordered, with a lovely open fire. Breakfast the following morning was equally impressive, no complaints.
The accommodation was reasonable and whilst we had no qualms with the rustic nature (it wasn't meant to be a modern Travel Lodge style) there were a couple of issues. The bathroom had a musky odour and the traffic noise began very early in the morning (heavy lorries passing). This did not spoil the trip at all, but perhaps careful choice of room would be advisable.
Would certainly recommend the food.

Room Tip: choose a room away from road if able

This is a great place to stay for those searching for cosy and simple. The family room was so warm and welcoming after a day out on the cold moors in November. The staff were friendly, rooms were nice and clean, the breakfast fantastic and we had a very enjoyable evening meal in the pub warming ourselves by the fire.

Made an impromptu visit hoping for a lunch on a Sunday while out walking with our Border Terrier. Although not having a booking mine host went out of his way to find us a table near the fire and welcomed the dog too ( we were prepared to eat in the garden). A comprehensive but unpretentious menu, very reasonably priced. We settled on baguettes. The best steak sandwich/baguette I have ever had. The wife's Tuna/Mayo was wonderful. The place quickly filled up with families, easy to see why. Suggest you book ahead! Old fashioned style, friendly and efficient. Well done!
