Puggiestone is situated about a mile outside Chagford. Oddly enough (for this neck of the woods) it's easy to find. Once in Chagford simply follow the signs for Gidleigh Park. Puggiestone is about 0.5 miles BEFORE this hotel in Holy Street. You are in the middle of gorgeous and world famous countryside.
It is set in many acres of landscaped gardens and a river runs through the property. It's the sort of place you will neither need nor want to leave during your stay.
The house is very spacious and the accommodation has been well planned to maximise comfort and afford you beautiful views from almost all the rooms. Furnishings and fixtures are at the top end of what you're likely to find in similar properties. The kitchen is pretty special too and Chagford has all the shops you need to purchase food and drink.
Set literally a few metres from the house is a large heated pool with large glass walls affording views of the gardens.
As this part of England attracts visitors from early spring to late autumn it's worth noting that the heating at the house is powerful. You are unlikely to feel a chill at any time of your stay.
If you decide you cannot cook another meal the hotel nearby will happily provide lunch and/or dinner . Be warned, though, it has a few Michelin Stars with pricing to match.
Awesome is the only word to use for this place. The tastefully, yet unusually decorated house itself is luxurious yet comfortable and in a stunning setting, with gorgeous views down to the river. Even the swimming pool room evokes emotions that make it hard to leave the picturesque charm of Puggiestone. Venture into the local village Chagford for provisions and make sure you stock up from 'Andy' the friendly local butcher whose bacon goes down a treat after a country walk in tbe woods, all sorts of pasties from the bakery and classic West Country 'homity pies' from Blacks the deli (yep, this Devon village has it all - dairy, off licence, bakery, pubs, florist and all manner of shops) and you'll have a fine time here. One question tho. When can we come back?
I stayed to celebrate a dear chums birthday. So much room and homely at the same time. Everything you need for a luxury stay in a beautiful setting and access to great walks.
The house felt like a home and everything has been thought of- right down to Christmas decorations which were a lovely touch.
Bedding and linens top quality and comfy beds too along with plenty of crockery etc in a more than fully equipped kitchen / breakfast room with stunning views down to the river all helped to enjoy this weekend stay.
Being able to arrange for massage therapists to come in was a real treat!
Nothing else to say except I’d do it all again! Well done for creating such a great space and sharing it!
I was fortunate enough to be invited to a house party at this glorious place.
The rooms are lovely - beds super comfy with beautiful bed linen and quality pillows - a must for a good nights sleep. The grounds are wonderful sloping down to the river.
Heated indoor swimming pool for those that are energetic . Next door is Gidleigh Park if it’s your chefs night off !! That said, if you don’t want to leave there is absolutely no need as everything absolutely everything you could want is there for you
We did lots of walking - the village is just a brisk 20 minutes away with interesting shops and inns.
We all loved it and are looking forward to an excuse to rebook
Thank you Puggiestone
