Owner description: The Golden Hind in Brixham Harbour, is one of only two full sized replicas in the world of 16th century explorer and privateer Sir Francis Drake's famous ship. The Ship has been a feature of picturesque Brixham harbour for over fifty years, entertaining and educating thousands of visitors during this time - as well as being featured on many tv programmes and films. The Ship is open come rain or shine and is an all weather attraction with many indoor displays as well as wide open decks and on-board activities.

Recommended as a great viewing piece of history. This is enjoyed by all ages, but the children are impressed by the history of this magnificent ship. Not to be missed on your visit to Brixham.

“Around the World in a bathtub !”

Fascinating to visit mainly because it is a true to scale replica. The Captain's Cabin is basically a windowless cupboard .10 officers lived in a space smaller than the average living room as for the men below decks they must have smelled worse than the pigs they took with them . How 70 plus sailors went round the world in a ship that size beggars belief .A different breed indeed to us mollycoddled latter day types.Pity about the cheesy displays below decks but forget that and just marvel at what these men achieved in a ship this size.

“Expensive but nice to see.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 September 2012

The Golden hind sits on the Harbour in Brixham and looks fantastic, The kids melted at the thought of getting on and having a look around. The cost of seeing the boat was a little on the steep side seeing as though it provides about 20 minutes of fun. Worth seeing if you are intrested in History and the Kids will be amazed if they are into Pirates.

“The inside is worth being visited”

We first thought it was enough to see it from the outside, but we finally visited the Golden Hind and it's great to see the inside and realize what could have been life aboard this ship. Good value for money.

“A step back in time”

Really good revisit after I don't know how many years. The ship is amazing and you get a real sense of what conditions must have been like for the sailors of the time. A real living history lesson and not just for the kids
