Description: The Old Market House is a contemporary restaurant in Brixham, Devon, a picturesque seaside fishing port. Our building is listed, and years ago played host to ship builders, an indoor fish market and a tourist information centre, amongst other trades. Now we serve fantastic meals harbour-side, with professional, friendly and efficient service from 12pm till late. Fancy a bite to eat with a beautiful view? We can do that! Our ground floor plays host to our bar and over 150 outdoor seats. Take advantage of St Austell Brewery's awesome selection of Real Ale (Tribute, Proper Job and HSD to name a few) and Cornish Lager (Korev) and the sun. Upstairs is our restaurant and balcony with full table service. Enjoy food cooked from fresh with local ingredients, served with a smile!

Delightful setting enhanced by great food, charming service, good selection of beer and wine. Take a seat upstairs (on balcony if warm enough outside, or a window seat indoors) and soak in the view of the harbour. 5 stars all round.

We tried to go on the glorious balcony for coffee and toasted teacakes. It was deserted so thought we had better check to be be told "it isn't opened yet" despite no signs and the stairs were not roped off.

We sat outside in the sunshine among tightly packed tables and chairs. It was tricky getting seated and they need to lose a table or two to create more room and greater comfort.

We ordered tea, coffee and two toasted teacakes. They were delivered in four separate attempts. The tea came first. I called the waitress back as the cup wasn't clean and I wanted it replaced. Next came one teacake. After five minutes the coffee arrived. Finally, four minutes more elapsed before the other teacake arrived. We were told the delay was due to the toaster being broken. The two staff members involved in waiting on our table were disinterested, unsmiling and unwelcoming.

The setting is the best thing about this place. The harbour and The Golden Hind make a wonderful backdrop but our experience proved to be ultimately disappointing.

Popped in here Easter Sunday and had a beer. Four of us sat outside and just chilled and watched the world go by. Food going out looked nice but we just drank here so for this experience we enjoyed

Relaxing drink and games of Uno & Tantrix. Warm when the door wasn't being opened!
Nice coffee, friendly, but overworked staff. Delay in getting coffee which is brought to your table.

Was taken out for a birthday treat.
I ordered steak which was supposed to come with mushrooms among other things. I was served with a single mushroom, the steak was overcooked and tough.
I asked the waitress to clarify if I had mist-understood the menu and she apologised saying that I should have had more than one mushroom and the chef was preparing some more. Within a short time, a large dinner plate arrived with a single mushroom in the middle clearly designed to embarrass and intimidate me. Pretty childish behaviour from a chef who clearly doesn’t know how to cook properly and is not conversant with the idea of plurality.
The waiting staff are lovely and polite, the beer and wine is lovely, this is not a cheap place to eat and drink but don’t expect respect from the kitchen if you have the temerity to ask a simple question about the accuracy or quality of the delivered food.

I would have had a better eating experience in Wetherspoons for a 1/3 the price.

Thank Greg H
