“A little gem”
Reviewed 13 June 2011

Not knowing Guernsey but needing an hotel for a couple of days we finally decided on The Yacht because it was in the centre of things and it sounded good to be overlooking the harbour. We chose well and our greeting from the owners could not have been more friendly and helpful in every way! This has only been under new management for a couple of months and there is little to improve although they say they "have a list"!

We paid extra for a sea view room and it was worth the money although anyone who needs to sleep early in the evening might have a problem with the noise coming from the very lively bar below, but everything goes quiet at midnight so it really isnt a deal-breaker. The harbour front is a lively place and a great central one for catching the buses which run everywhere but always return to St Peter Port so if you want to get a feel for the island, the number 7 bus will take you on a circular tour for only £1 per person per trip!

Parking is also free as long as you display the timing wallet and adhere to the 2 hours or 10 hours stay. We were given a parking wallet by the hotel although we would have been happy to pay the £2.50.

Our room was adequate - dont expect spacious - with a very large double (super kingsize) - and almost everything was thought of to make one's stay comfortable. There is even a small ironing board and iron in the cupboard which was handy as well as everything to make a cup of tea or coffee in your room. More than enough wardrobe space and cupboards and loads of hangers (very important)! The shower in the bathroom was really good and there was a good cupboard above the washbasin for storing everything. The only problem at the moment is where to put the soap when it is wet since there is no dish and we had to put it on the (very cool) washbasin surround which over time would spoil the wood but the owners assure us that this and somewhere to place shampoo etc in the shower, is top of their to do list.

I would mention that the pillows are not the best since they are mostly foam but perhaps this is something which will change in time.

We had one meal in the restaurant which was very good and the chef only too happy to cook the fresh fish of the day in any way you wished as well as other choices on the carte. Not too expensive either considering the surrounds and the view across the harbour! Certainly a good contrast to many of the restaurants which tended to sell ordinary burgers, pizza and fish and chips!

Breakfast was included in our booking and this consisted of a small buffet of fresh fruit, cereals and croissants but would be supplemented by a full cooked breakfast freshly made on the spot for us as well as unlimited supplies of tea and coffee.

If you want to be in a buzzy place with lots of things to walk to and see and yet want a very good room and restaurant, this is for you and you can be sure of a warm welcome..

Room Tip: We had room 14 which had a good harbour view.

The location of Yach Inn is perfect. For the location the price is in line, but for the hotel in general, I think that it could be a bit lower, specially the room with the seaview.

As there is a bar downstairs, the Fridaynight and Saturdaynight were quite noisy.

Our room was in the upstairs and there were 50 stairs to step. It was quite a lot, specially with the luggage. I think that this should be mentioned in the hotel description and if you have somehow problems with walking or you are older, you should ask room from the lower levels/downstairs.

The breakfast was ok.

Guernsey is such a lovely place and this hotel is very well located.

Room Tip: ask room from downstairs, if you mind 50 stairs.

our room was ok. with nice view overlooking the port and well situated for the excellent bus service round the island.
there was no hot water for a shower one morning, and the other mornings it was only just warm enough.
the TV controller in our room did not work - I had to go and ask for replacement batteries
we had a very average breakfast in the bar, which is ok for a bar but not attractive for breakfast particularly as it has stained seating- i would have preferred to be upstairs in the dining room which would have been much nicer and next to the kitchen.service was pleasant but slow. It was really annoying having the TV on but silent and some music at the same time!
the female staff were pleasant, the male staff gruff.
the staff did not seem to have good knowledge of the area but did look on the internet for us.

Just spent an amazing 3 nights at the Yacht and it was perfect in every way. The owners could not do enough to help and were very friendly. The location was fantastic, just next to the harbour, town and the bus terminus. Moreover, the rooms were clean, fresh and the sea view - amazing. The bar below is one of the best (in my opinion) in St. Peter Port and sells local ale. Will definately return.

I have stayed here twice and will stay again during my next business trip to Guernsey. The Inn is extremely comfortable and the rooms are quiet, its located a stone's throw from the town centre so very handy for sightseers and shoppers. They have a lovely bar on the ground floor and very friendly staff, as a solo female traveller I felt very comfortable on my own. If you are looking for somewhere reasonably priced and centrally located then this is perfect, I even had a huge room to myself on this occasion!
