Peace and tranquil with superb landscape views, plus the ancient monastic site are the making of an excellent day out. We were blessed a brilliant summers day so saw it at its best.

This is what you think Ireland should look like. Green rolling hills, waterfalls, mist, rock walls and lots of heather. A most see!!
There are some lovley places to visit and walk, a bit like the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales near where I live. If you love the wilderness and enjoy hiking then this is the perfect place for you. Also there are hundreads of historical sites to visit for those historians.
Driving from Hollywood to Laragh is by far the best way to enter into this piece of heaven on earth. It gives you the most picturesque views, and as the landscape changes before your eyes, it is absolutely incredible.
Make sure to take your time driving through here so you can make the most of the stop off points for viewing. But please be mindful of the many motorbikes that also use this road, it is a favourite for thousands of them every week. The sky can change so many times, as can the view, while you drive through this huge chasm in the mountains, which makes for some great photo opportunities.
When you reach Laragh, there are a few nice places to stop and have food or refreshments, and reflect on what you have just experienced. I also recommend making the return journey back the same way, as you can see so many other angles and views of this beautiful place.
TREKS: well marked, 2-4 hour treks. If you wish to extend your trek, start from the white anti clockwise (not climbing the 600 steps first, but from the car park along the miner's road). Once you meet the red trek, do the red trek until you find Wicklow Way yellow signs, turn back along the red and then continue to the last part of the white. This way you only have to climb up once and you get an extended trek of five hours and see more. (the start of the red trek is sand road, so not so nice)
GEAR NEEDED: It is colder up, so take some extra clothing. Water at least 1 liter per for 3 hours and 2 liters for 6 hours trekking. You do need to prepare for rain, at it always rains in Ireland :-). Tennis shows and jeans are not good, trekking shoes and water proof pants will make your life much more comfortable. Map and compass really not needed as treks well marked. Food needed (nuts, fruit, sandwich), even during 3 hours hike you will feel weak if you have nothing with you.
WOULD I RECOMMEND? Yes! And no need to do Wicklow Way, as WW is a lot about road. If you want to trek on nature trails, better to drive directly to Glendalough, get a B&B and just do day treks at Glendalough nature reserve. Much easier and better views.
Wicklow Mountains is one of the most beautiful and amazing places that I have been to. The view is just stunning and is possible to get a guided tour from Dublin to Wicklow Mountains for a reasonable place. This is a place I would like to visit again if I get chance to do it, its worth a second visit too.
