Having discovered that the hotel I usually stay in was full, I decided to try out the Radisson, Price seemed very fair at 80 Euro for a double room. Looked very nice online etc, However, I must have been very unlucky in my experience of the hotel, as the most recent comments are positive.
I have several negative experiences, and to be honest, Faulty Towers really sprung to mind, I was, and still remain very angry at the manner in which I was treated by some very rude hotel staff.
Firstly, on check in, I paid for the room in full, and the receptionist could not print off my receipt. Some faulty office I was informed. This did not bother me, as I had paid by laser, and could track it if necessary. Went to the room which was very cold. Noticed the temp stat on the wall, and decided to raise it upon our return later. Also, noticed not enough pillows on the bed. only one each! Extra pillows were requested.
My daughter and I then decided to have bar food before attending an event in Sligo,
Table was sticky. Moved to a different one. It too was sticky. Ordered Cod and chips for myself, and pizza for my daughter. Order arrived in good time, only they brought my daughter a stir-fry instead. Returned with pizza some 15 mins later, after I had finished my food. Very inconvenient as we were in a hurry to attend our event in Sligo. Unacceptable. I asked the waiter if I could pay on checkout, and he asked me to sign a slip for same. Did as requested. Left the hotel and returned four hours later to our room to find telephone ringing. Answered, and a foreign accent informed me, very coldly, that I had left the hotel without paying for the bar-food, Tried explaining that I had signed a document at the request of the waiter, etc., but was told, that 'I must pay for it now!. As my daughter and I were trying to get the heat sorted in the room, it was very inconvenient, and could not understand why they were so aggressive about this. And yes... this was an aggressive request. by this staff member. Again, I asked would it not do in the morning and I was told very sternly 'no!' i went down to pay, and did so. The receptionist came over to explain to me that many clients leave without paying..tried to do so nicely. Laura I think her name was. However, I was not happy at feeling treated like a potential criminal. No one should be made feel like this when they are trying to relax. Anyway, went up to the room, still no pillows. Tried to get the heating working. It was broken. Rang down again, they sent up pillows and a portable radiator which was largely ineffective. This was in room 133.
Went to breakfast next morn. Was led to table devoid of plates, cutlery and condiments. Got cooked breakfast, sat at table, and asked waiter was it going to be set., and he stupidly asked what did I need, despite the fact that there was not one utensil on the table!!!
Brought milk jug, with a tiny dribble in the bottom. No butter. Daughter had dirty cup. Sausages were tasteless.
Daughter decided to go for a swim. THERE WAS NO LIFEGAURD PRESENT. Parents are to supervise their own kids. This, is my opinion is the worst thing I have seen in any hotel, given THAT THERE HAVE BEEN FATALITIES recently, in other hotels. This is negligence in the extreme, and THERE IS NO EXCUSE for this.
Decided to check out there and then, and went back to (cold) room. A man walked in, and asked did I want the heat fixed. I told him not to bother.
Aired my views to Ms. Mulligan, and told her that if they are going to regard potential clients walking in the doors as fraudsters/dishonest, they should close their doors until they get their act together. She however, did not charge me for the mini-bar, and advised me to contact the main manager myself, in the light of my experience. I feel really angry at this treatment, and nothing he can say/do can ameliorate my violated feelings in this instance. It will be easy to track my stay from the info I have given here, and if he wants to contact me he can, as number is on file. I will never stay here again, would never recommend. I have never had this experience/treatment anywhere else. If visiting Sligo do yourself a favour and visit the Sligo Park.
