Peaceful location with wonderful sea and sky views. About a 5 minute drive to tiny harbour town of Cleggan. Ferry to Inishboffin available as well as pubs, a take away and one small store. 15 minute drive to the lovely town of Clifden with all necessary amenities and great restaurants and pubs as well as bus connections. On the street pay parking in Clifden. Hikes, horse and boat trips nearby. Must have your own vehicle. Washer and dryer available. Often very windy and rainy in this area, bring appropriate clothing.
We arrived at the cottage on a misty, murky afternoon. We were a couple of hours early but let ourselves in. The cottage was clean and tidy and perfectly suited the two of us and our little dogs. After a long drive from the ferry it was kettle on, dogs walked then feet up. Michelle, the lovely girl who looks after the cottage, popped in and made us feel welcome despite our early arrival.
The cottage is fairly small but has two good sized bedrooms (each with a large double bed and a single) and two shower rooms. The kitchens/diner/lounge is well equipped with a washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, microwave and even a coffee maker. There is a large comfy couch but not very good tv reception specially when it's windy! The best bit though is that you can see the ocean out of every window. Outside is just concreted but there is a lovely little deck with table and chairs, perfect for sipping your morning coffee and inhaling the smell of the sea.
The following morning we woke to glorious sunshine, stepped outside the front door and were confronted by the most spectacular views imaginable. A perfect little crescent beach a stones throw from the door, the little red Cleggan ferry churning up the bluest of water on it's way to Inishbofin and almost a 360 degree panorama of ocean.
The area itself is perfectly located for exploring Connemara although we found plenty to do close by. Less than a five minute walk from the cottage is Rossadillisk Harbour and it's gorgeous beach with crystal clear water, perfect for swimming or just taking in the lovely views. The small fishing village of Cleggan (less than a mile away) has some great pubs, one of which serves some gorgeous seafood and is an easy walk from the cottage but take a torch if you intend to walk back at night. It is also where you can get the ferry to Inishbofin. The town of Clifden is about 15 minutes away by car and has pubs, shops, restaurants and supermarkets. It's a very pretty town and we went there everyday to get our cappuccino fix in one of the cafes.
This was a perfect place to unwind and take things easy and we did just that.
