We celebrated our son's birthday at this amazingly beautiful cabin. It rained most of the weekend but we had one of the best family trips we've ever had! The views are unbelievable, the cabin is beautiful, clean and cozy. Carla and Howard are amazing hosts, they left fresh eggs, OJ and milk. Couldn't have asked for a better stay.
My son and I wanted to take a short trip from the Nashville area to stay in a cozy cabin without driving all the way to the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge area. This cabin was ideal! Our favorites: 1.) The hot tub: wow! What a lovely way to end the night both nights. It was large, super clean and very relaxing. The first night I could see lightning over the distant hills. 2.) Howard's helpfulness: he was so responsive no matter what came up. He even taught me how to use the grill and showed my son his fabulous 1963 car (just ask!). 3.) The surroundings: so peaceful and lovely. Old spearheads found on property by owners may even be from Paleo-Indians native to TN. It is truly quiet and private. 4.) The rooster and chickens! Don't hesitate to book. It's an exceptional value for the price. It is a little remote, though, so it's best for those like me who really want to get away.
Remote, yet not too far from town (Carthage) should you need supplies (Walmart). Lovely country drive around the lake to the towns of Gainesboro (honestly wasn't real impressed but may be better in summer when more things are happening) and Granville. Be sure to check out Sutton General Store. They serve lunch and also have special shows and music throughout the year. The Homestead and the antique car museum was closed for winter but a nice little gift shop in the old bank was open and the lady working there was very knowledgeable. As for the accommodations, they are decorated with beautiful antiques yet it is still very homey and comfortable. Awesome kitchen with many of the staples (coffee, spices, sugar, flour...), fresh eggs and juice in the fridge. The hot tub was a great way to relax and ease weary bones after travelling most of the day to get there. The bed was sooo comfy (warning, you will need to use the little stool to get in it if you are short) even my husband slept in and he's usually up at the crack of dawn! It was lovely to wake to the rooster crowing( don't worry it wasn't too early and not overly loud). You do have to be able to climb stairs to get to the living space. However, there is a full bathroom downstairs making it handy when you are outside on the porch grilling or using the hot tub. The owners are on property in case you should need them but not intrusive. The deer came out along the drive to say goodbye (LOL) as we drove away.... I recommend staying here whether you are looking for a relaxing getaway just the two of you, a girls weekend or family fun on the lake.

I was in nearby Carthage on business for a couple of weeks in the fall and was lucky to find Carla and Howard's beautiful place on the hill. I had an extremely relaxing and pleasant stay. The cabin was clean and well appointed, the bed super-comfortable, and the views stellar, but what really made the stay memorable was Carla and Howard! More accomodating and gracious hosts I can't imagine. I truly look forward to my next stay!
