Thomas, our tour guide, has worked for 10 years as a historian of the Lotz family home and it’s part in the bloody battle of Franklin. He shared personal, individual stories of both Federal and Confederate soldiers who fought in the battle on November 30, 1864. He was obviously passionate about the lives that were sacrificed, both in that battle, and in any battle to protect American liberty.
He spoke to the young people in the crowd about finding their passion as well, and acknowledged how the children in the Lotz family were forever changed by what they witnessed the morning after the battle.

I highly recommend this tour and house as a way to bring American History to life!

The narrator was very informative. He gave facts and names of the soldiers and some background on them. There was a lot of information shared that most of us wouldn't think about. I highly recommend this tour.

Brought my 10 and 13 yr old here on trip during Spring Break. Tour guide was very passionate about his subject. Made the subject of the Civil War hit more close to home. Also included great details about an adventurous female role model who lived in the home. This was interesting for my daughter to hear. We enjoyed, learned and gave it a thumbs up!

This lovely old house has some stories to tell. You can combine it with a trip to Carter House across the road to add to your Civil War education.
