We were supposed to have gone with friends, but they were unable to go, so we had a 2 bedroom townhouse all to ourselves. The unit was very nice and appeared to be newly updated. Unit 152 is right next to the pool just inside the entrance to the Village area of Palmetto Dunes. It is only a short walk to Big Jim's restaurant, the tennis courts and the golf course.

There are two parking spaces. One is outside, but the other is in an open garage under the townhouse. The unit trash can and recycling are kept in the garage. There is no included housekeeping during the week. We did not run out of supplies and they did emphasize that we should ask for anything we run out of. They had bath soap and toilet tissues, but you needed to bring your own shampoo and other toiletries. In the kitchen was paper towels, soap for the dishwasher and for hand washing dishes, and 2 packages of laundry soap.

From the garage, it was up 7 steps to the kitchen, living room, and dining room area. The porch was off the dining room. Up another 7 steps to the twin bedroom, full bath, and washer/dryer. 7 steps more to the master bedroom and large bath.

The unit was clean and seemed to be newly updated. It was quiet -- but we were there in March and nights were cool and there were very few children. The only activities off season were the orientation continental breakfast and a wine and cheese gathering. Listen carefully because they'll tell you about the short cut through the woods to the beach.

Upon arrival, I learned that my unit had been scheduled for maintenance and that the maintenance was already underway. The staff was quick to offer an upgrade unit as a substitute. The unit was clean and ample provisions were available. Being located just a short distance from the beach, I suppose I could only complain about not being directly on the beach and for perhaps slightly warmer weather. Everyone working in and around Palmetto Dunes was most helpful and polite. I would gladly return to this facility.

This place is run down and falling apart with a staff that cares little about customer service. The reviews about the roaches are true. The reason that they have them is poor maintenance. The reviews of a quiet location are wrong. We were woken up by leaf blowers doing nothing but stirring up the bugs and dust every morning and everyone drives like a maniac. It is near the beach and 2 restaurants.

Staying on the island, we booked a court to play some singles Pickleball. Only facility on the entire island! A very nice one at that. We quickly met pro Mark Anders. He warmly engaged us to join others and helped us tremendously with our doubles game. Thanks for everything Mark!
Even if you have never played the sport, while visiting Hilton Head, make your way to Palmetto Dunes Tennis/Pickeball. Meet Mark and have fun learning a very social game for all ages. You will be hooked!

Liked the small size of this community. The units needed a little upgrading, but overall, ok. We were a little cramped in our 1 bed studio but we loved the cathedral ceiling. Short walk to the beach where there is a beach bar/cafe that was closed due to very cold weather. I would definitely consider returning.
