Our stay: July 15th-22nd 2017
Let me start by saying that this review covers both the house and the Island. World of difference in our feelings between the two.
The House: Absolutely fantastic!! From the time we set our reservation until we left, it was a smooth procedure. The owner, Chris was so easy to work with and I even spoke with him by phone and he's just a very nice person. I had asked him if there was a Gas grill at the home and he said there was not, but he and his wife were going down there the following week to make sure all was ready for the season and he would get one. He did and that really meant a lot to us that he followed through.
The home itself is beautiful and so welcoming. Everything is modern and well maintained. So many rentals are dated and dull, but not this place. Three of the four bedrooms have there own bathrooms and the kitchen is top notch. It has a sitting room / library that is full of books, games and cards to keep you entertained if going outside (rain) is not doable. With the exception of the top floor, which is just a bedroom, each of the other floors have outside sitting areas. Off the master bedroom, it's even screened in.
The house comes with a four seat golf cart and four bikes for your use. They also provide beach chairs. Outside shower helps with knocking the sand off before going in. Awesome billiards table too... really enjoyed that and playing a little Monopoly with my girl.
The Island: Please understand that our opinion may not be shared by others and it should not keep you from deciding for yourselves. The picture of the beach shown on the website for Harbor Island was taken in 2005, at it's most pristine. Unfortunately Hurricane Matthew struck in October of 2016 and those beautiful beach homes are now condemned and really make for and ugly feature. I think there are five in total. The beach is also a marsh beach and don't expect to see water until 4 or 5 in the afternoon. Until then.... MUCK!!
The community itself is really nice. we did not take advantage of the pool or tennis courts, but they both looked nice. All in all we were happy with our stay and got to relax and unplug for a week and that's what we came for. I would overwhelmingly recommend this home if you are coming to Harbor Island.
