We wanted to be close to the downtown area of this absolutely lovely city, and the hotels on or near Main Street were numerous. Nearly all required a fee for parking, but this one did not. It was only slightly removed from the center of activity, and several blocks from the Falls Park, but a reasonable walk could take one to scores of restaurants and other places of interest, and if travel outside the central city was desired, the car park was very convenient and free.

As for the hotel, it contained what all first class hotels have, and the breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Comparing the cost, perhaps the slight dislocation afforded a price slightly favorable to those on a budget.

Stopped in Greenville on a Saturday evening in May on our way to Charleston. I had heard from a Gamecock colleague that Greenville was a worthwhile place to visit and I now have to agree. We intend to return when we have more time to spend.

The location is excellent for exploring the many upscale shops and restaurants in the area. An art fest (Artisphere) was in full swing so the streets and restaurants were a little crowded.

The hotel decor is a little tired, but the room rates are a good value for the downtown area. Very loud AC, makes TV watching difficult. However, the AC works very well; it really cooled the room down on a very hot day.

Bathroom sink drain was broken. Maintenance man responded very quickly but was unable to fix it due to a missing part. He returned with some missing part just before his shift was due to be up, but he was still unable to fix it. We had to choose between it being permanently open, or permanently closed. We chose permanently open (less chance of flooding).

Had to go hunting for ice machine (it’s on the third floor). Also had to call down to front desk for instructions on how to turn off the cabinet light above the bar sink. No help coming from that direction. We finally just opened the cabinet and pulled the light plug cord from the electrical outlet. Another problem solved. Finally found the miniscule light switch the next morning with help from my cell phone flash light.

Kind of worn and dated, but some welcome old-fashioned touches like a real dresser with drawers, an open closet with hangers, a full length mirror, a table that can serve as a desk, an easy chair with hassock.

Sheets had a permanent stain on them, but otherwise looked washed and clean. The mattress was a little too soft and lumpy for my tastes, and the pillows were insubstantial. Nothing to prevent me from getting a good night’s sleep.

Outside noise was inaudible, despite sharing a wall with the elevator shaft (perhaps because nothing could compete with the sound level of the AC).

Bathtub/shower combination with non-slip mat and sturdy handrails. Forceful shower. I flooded the bathroom floor despite careful, repeated adjustments of shower curtain. Bright bathroom mirror lights, adequate counter space.

Competent accommodations. Friendly staff. Includes free breakfast. Breakfast attendant is cheerful and wonderful.

Limited parking. Late arrivals may find it hard to find a parking spot.

Walking distance to downtown Greenville.

We had to stay a night near downtown. This turned to be a perfect place. Basic amenities but very clean and professional. Good parking space. Good staff. Decent breakfast. Spacious rooms with 2 queen beds were a perfect choice for our family with kids.

Our King Room was very spacious and clean. We stayed 2 nights and house keeping did a great job. Check in and out was good. The staff were very professional. We have returned to the HI Express time and time again when in Greenville. Just walk right out the door and enjoy your time. Live music, restaurants, and shopping are minutes away. See ya next time.
