My goodness, I had planned to fly fish today but did not work out so looked for an alternative activity. A local recommended Coastal Expeditions to Bull Island. What a wonderful trip for the day and to have it led by experienced and talented scientists who could give so much wonderful information about the 4 pillars of the ecosystem. Inspiring and insightful so made my day coming from Dallas, TX. Thanks Will, you were marvelous as our tour guide.

Our ferry crew, Will and Nick, will be happy to know they could make your trip special. If you are ever back in town, check out many of the other excursions we offer including kayak tours, charter cruises and overnight trips in the lowcountry!

My dad, step mom, wife and myself booked a 3 hour kayak tour, and it was simply fantastic!

The gear and kayaks were really nice and they did a great job providing helpful tips so that paddling is easy and enjoyable (even for beginners).

Capt. Henry is also really knowledgeable about plants, birds, dolphins, jellyfish and a wide variety of other wildlife that make the Shem Creek area so special. He's clearly a passionate conservationist and this company does a wonderful job helping their patrons walk away with a true appreciation for nature and the animals we got to see on the tour!

So what did we see? We saw some dolphins that got pretty close to our kayaks, a few jelly fish, and a lot of different birds. While those animals were some clear highlights, we learned about everything from the phytoplankton that help support this rich ecosystem, to the plant and wildlife species that would have been present several hundred years ago when Charleston was first settled. Capt. Henry walked us through history and educated us on our natural surroundings all while we got a nice relaxing workout!

Awesome way to experience the south in a different way while you're visiting Charleston!

What a wonderful adventure on Shem Creek! Phytoplankton remove carbon dioxide from sea water and release oxygen as a by-product, which provides us (humans) the oxygen we need to survive! This production is one of the major sources of oxygen as there is so much water on our planet! Thank you for joining us at Coastal Expeditions!

The boat ride to Bull's Island was incredible..the guide we had gave us so much information on the preservation and overall day to day for the conservationists who work diligently to protect this area.
The highlight for me was heading out to Boneyard Beach. You will have about 2 hours to walk around if you wish to head back to the mainland by noon (if you take the 9am boat) or you can choose to stay and explore the island until the last boat of the day leaves at 4pm.
Boneyard Beach is spectacular, and although it was quite windy when I was there, the beauty will make you forget the weather should it be less than perfect.
Kids, as well as adults, will laugh with glee looking for shells and sand dollars.
The guide was incredibly friendly and I would recommend this activity to all nature buffs and camera lovers!

Jenny, we are so happy you had a great day on Bull Island. There is no shortness of magic on the island- alligators, the boneyard, the mixing of salt water and fresh water environments! Thanks so much for coming out on the Bull Island Ferry! We hope to take you out again soon.

We decided to go for it even though the weather wasn't exactly perfect for kayaking. We did have to tandem up instead of individual kayaks due to wind and currents making it much harder to paddle in. Our guide, Aaron, was extremely knowledgeable on everything on our trip and did a great job keeping us in calmer water to make the paddling easier. This was our second trip with Coastal and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a nice paddle and education on the local ecosystem.

March was an extremely windy month for us, here on the coast. Glad that ya'll were up for the extra effort, its not an adventure til something doesn't go as planned. Aaron is a knowledgeable guide and instructor. Hope that we can see you again for a third trip when you are back in town!
