Owner description: Experience the sounds that define Charleston's musical history...from gospel to Gershwin. Each weekly live concert features music of the Civil War; light classics of the venerable St. Cecelia Society; the music of George Gershwin, who wrote "Porgy & Bess" during a summer in Charleston; gospel spirituals sung by slaves as they passed through the port of Charleston; and "Amazing Grace", the words of which were inspired in the composer, John Newton, while he worshipped in our host venue, Circular Congregational Church. Frommers Travel Guide says, "the best night out in Charleston...a must see performance. Visit our website or call the box office for concert dates and ticket information.

This is one of those authentic, unique things to do in Charleston. The musicians are not only talented, but are great storytellers.
So much history in Charleston and music is a great device for talking about the history of the city.
Great value for the experience.

This was well worth the price of admission. Nice blend of music along with Charleston's history. If you purchase your tickets in advance at the Visitor Center they are $1.00 cheaper than at the door.

Heard about Sounds of Charleston from a Trip Adviser suggestion. Glad we looked into it. I think it only is on two Fridays a month, but we were lucky. The concert traces the history of Charleston in music and is held at the Circular Church. The narrator was wonderful, but the two highlights were the family that sang Gospel music and the two pianists who played Rhapsody in Blue. We got goosebumps! The show starts at 7pm and ends at 8:15 so it is convenient to go to dinner afterwards. Price was $28, but us young seniors only paid $25. A very nice way to start your evening.

The evening we spent at this weekly event was the highlight of our second visit to this beautiful city.
What a wonderful historical musical interpretation. The church is both beautiful to look at as well as possessing superb acoustics. Wonderful value.
